Two years ago I went to an Optometrist because I was having trouble with my right eye. I only realized it when I was learning to shoot a rifle and could not see the target. I have had perfect 20/20 vision up until then. Well $600 later, I got a pair of glasses. The left lens is plain glass and the right one is a digital bi-focal. It was supposed to take two weeks to get used to them. After two weeks of really struggling I quit wearing the glasses. I just couldn't see with them on, especially for reading. The last couple of months I have been experiencing a lot of pressure in the right eye and headaches and double vision. My Rheumatologist suggested that I see an Opthalmologist. I went today and found out that I have a very unusual cataract right in the center of my lens. I will have laser surgery to remove it and my Doctor says I won't need my glasses anymore! Thank goodness since I don't wear them anyway. I really never needed the glasses in the first place. I guess I should have questioned the first Doctor when the glasses did not help me at all. Apparently the first eye exam showed some spots forming on my eye, but was never looked into any further. Rheumatoid Arthritis can cause or encourage cataract growth! I have had RA for over twelve years now.

I am trying to be the person my dogs think I am.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Medicine never fails to amaze me... Diane, I am so happy and excited for you that they are able to do such an incredible procedure to repair and restore your sight! That's wonderful news! I'm so sorry that your vision issues are extremely troublesome for you, but thank goodness it'll only be a few more months! Hang tight! Did the doctor say how long the recovery will be after the surgery? I'll be praying for you! Hugs - Nini

Well, I had my consultation with the eye surgeon and he is going to replace my lens in the problem eye. He says it will match my left eye! The only problem is I can't have the surgery until May! In the meantime I can't see very well. I am seeing double and can't focus. It comes and goes and some days it is worse than others. The surgeon thinks it is from a head injury in my past. I was hit with a line drive softball 19 years ago that broke my cheekbone and eye socket and caused nerve damage. I can't believe it is causing me problems now. So much for being the pitcher in softball LOL! That ball hit me so hard that the stitches on the ball implanted on my face...ouch! I remember it well, I had a concussion and my right side of my face looked like something from a horror movie. I have been trying to sew and craft but have a hard time focusing. Maybe I will get a patch and wear it over the problem eye!

I hope your surgery goes well Diane. I've had lost vision when I was in my twenties and the modern clinic did weeks of tests only to say, We don't know! Use this ointment...burned like crazy and did not help. So I stopped using it.

I went to the old family eye doctor, he knew what it was from and gave me a different drop and it cleared up in a few days time. The old school sometimes knows best!

Now, it's my ears and eczema giving me fits! I use oregano oil to keep it under control and the ear doctor had a fit! lol He told me I'd die if I didn't take his RX which I was allergic to! 5 months later I am still here and my left ear is better, now it is the right ear. I get wax build up and it won't drain.

I go to a different doctor on Monday who is supposed to suction it out. Give me strength dear God!

Diane,
I will pray for you for your laser surgery. I am glad that they are able to take care of it for you. It will be nice to have clear vision again, without the need for squinting or glasses.
I had laser surgery in my left eye in November for what they call "narrow angles" which supposedly brings on glaucoma attacks. I was apprehensive to let them "tinker" with my eye, but the doctors said I really didnt have much choice. I still have to get my right eye (which is my GOOD eye) done- but I am procrastinating.
Good luck to you- I'm sure it will all go smoothly!
Hugs,

~Laurie
