I know this is a subject quite a few of us deal with and I am going to be evaluated tonight and next week at the sleep clinic of our hospital. Several weeks ago after shopping , I got in after loading the car . cracked the windows, turned the car on and immediately fell asleep! For TWO whole hours! Yes, I am a busy girl and do tend to overdue, but fibromyalgia has slowed me down quite a bit. I used to sleep 8-9 hours routinely, now I feel lucky to get 2-6 if any.
They think I might have sleep apnea but aren't sure until I do this "study". I'm alittle nervous sleeping (or not) in a strange environment but I want to get to the bottom of this, I know I haven't been my best through all this sleeplessness. Wish me luck!

My grandfather had sleep apnea too. He got a machine and slept much better took the rest of us about 3 months to sleep normal again. We were all so used to his load snoring you could hear it through the whole house that we couldn't sleep with out that sound isn't that strange. It is like the person who sleeps in front of the tv or with a ceiling fan turn it off and they will almost wake up immediatly.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

I have such a hard time getting myself to sleep too! I will get from 4 to 5 hours a night at best and then about 3 pm I am ready to drop. I find myself falling asleep if I sit down during the day. I just don't have time for that. I have always not needed alot of sleep..but I sure feel like I need more. I try it all to get to sleep (besides medicines) and nothing natural seems to work...
I am so glad you got diagnosed Bramble..and I am anxious to hear how your appointment goes Kate!
My dad had sleep apnea and had to go through the whole sleep clinic thing.
Sleep is such an important and hard to get thing for me. I try to use the time I can't sleep to be productive, but I would kill for 8 hours straight of sleep. My problem is GETTING to sleep in the first place!! I HAVE to get up with the kids.

My husband went through the same thing. He saw an immediate improvement once he began taking oral medication and using a CPAP breathing machine. I was glad too because I haven't had to get up and sleep on the couch since then due to his thrashing in bed or snoring. The dogs were sad though. They loved the slumber parties in the living room with me! lol

I hope you do too Kate! Who knew something so basic and necessary would become so elusive. Best of luck with your health care provider,
I hope they listen and are your advocate like mine is. Let me know how things work out for you.

Katiedid- My MIL has restless leg syndrome and arthritis and went through literally years of not sleeping. The lack of sleep began to affect her vision and actual eyes. We finally got her to go to the Sleep Clinic, they diagnosed her and now she takes a medication that she says has improved her quality of life ten fold. Have you tried any of the new meds available? She says there are no side effects and she feels so much better that she's moving more too. Maybe worth a try!
As for me...I was diagnosed with sleep apnea( I stopped breathing 30
times during the study!) Actually that is considered mild, some people exceed 100 in one night. No wonder we're tired, with all that waking up! I go back next week for a study with the pressurized breathing machine. Should prove "interesting"...
Just as a side note...it wasn't scary or uncomfortable. The room was set up like a hotel suite and I did needlework, read, watched some tv and felt like I was on vacation! Until they hooked me up with all the electrodes (that was strange but not uncomfortable) and then actually went to sleep( or not...) The worst part was they had to change adhesives several times because I am very sensitive. I can't even wear normal band aids without itching or breaking out in a rash.
I would recommend the experience to anyone who has been suffering with sleeplessness for extended periods. There are reasons (and help)why we aren't sleeping. I think I realized the other day how many things I haven't taken on in the last year because I have been so
tired. If there is something I can do to improve my quality of life
I am going to do it, life is too short to waste any of it!

I hate sleep trouble!! I have rheumatoid arthritis, and sleep is such a big deal! It can be like a vicious cycle..not enough rest=more pain, then more pain=less sleep....I hate it.
On top of the arthritis junk, I think I have restless leg syndrome too! I jerk awake, and sometimes my legs hurt so bad..the only relief I get is walking up and down the halls, over and over...who wants to do THAT all night!

Bramble..I will be thinking of you. I hope you get some much needed rest soon.
Love and light to you
Kate

Actually the shopping cart collecting boys did see me, one knew me the other didn't. The one who didn't said "Just leave her alone, she's probably drunk", the one who did (came on later) kept coming back and checking on me ( he eventually woke me up by pounding on the window and yelling my name). He said "I know your busy, but do you have to sleep at the market?!!! I was getting worried you were in a diabetic coma or something!" I tried to call your house but my call wouldn't go through (due to caller ID) I figured I better get you help if you needed it. Good kid, I always liked him, now I know why! Thanks girls, I'll keep you posted...

I am glad you wher enot in a garage or you wouldn't be posting this. Please be extra careful. I was having problems staying awake awhile back if I drove more than 15 minutes I would start to go to sleep to find out I was so iron poor that my body just couldn't keep itself awake. We have corrected that now. I hope yours is an easy fix too.

bramble, my thoughts will be with you. I know how you feel, to sleep at a clinic, but you can do it, as to get to the diagnosis. Best to you, please let us all know. Were you just parked while you slept? And no one saw you?
