Hello Farmgals!

Does anyone know the 20 states that have been hit with the Spinach E-coli outbreak? I fed raw spinich that I bought at the store this past week, it's from Fresh Express Incorporated out of Salinas, CA. My stomach started hurting after lunch and I bet I've walked a mile since then just getting to the bathroom and back. I'm hoping it's not the e-coli but just a mild stomach bug.

I can't really find more information out on the CDC website or any other gov website. I figured we are generally better informed than most so if you know anything about this please let me know.

I'm late responding to this email, but wanted to post the information I found while researching the outbreak (having consumed a wonderful spinach salad myself exactly one week ago).

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dbmd/diseaseinfo/escherichiacoli_g.htm

Incubation period appears to be 3-9 days, rarely if ever less than 24 hours after eating it since it has to hang out in our intestines and get comfy for awhile.

Majority of cases resolve on their own without long term effects but small percentage of people develop life threatening side effects.

Cooking the spinach kills the e.coli, so we can still enjoy it, just COOK it!

Sigh, just when we think we are doing all the healthy things...are there any recalls on chocolate yet? That would really break my heart.

Thank you for the information all. I'm thinking I had something at a baby shower that I was a part of Friday morning. I can't imagine what I ate that caused such a bad reaction. Today my intestines felt like they were put through the ringer but overall I felt better. Tonight I'm not feeling any lingering effects so I'm hoping whatever it was is gone.
To be on the safe side I did throw away the left over raw spinach that I had and refused to let my rabbit eat it.
I hope no one else get the e-coli and it doesn't keep people from looking at organic produce.

Hugs to all,
Cyn

I agree with Karen, much better safe than sorry. CNN has a list of states and all possible brands on it's news website this morning. There is also a toll free phone # for a coupon for free product if you had to throw yours out. Think I'll pass on that one for awhile.
Hope you're feeling better Cynthia.

Cynthia- AOL had a big article with links on their welcome page this morning. http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a/federal-officials-hunt-for-other-e-coli/20060914195709990002?ncid=NWS00010000000001
See if you can link to it. It did have the brands and where it is most prevelant.
If you are having problems after eating spinach, I would call your doctor. No use tempting fate.
