I've been sick for over a month now, coughing constantly. The dr. wants to do a bronchoscopy on Monday--that's where they put a tube down your nose and look into your lungs. I'll be under anesthesia, but it still worries me. I've never had a cough like this before, and it doesn't seem to be responding to medication. Plus, a couple days ago, I came down with a cold, so now I really feel miserable. I had to sleep in my recliner last night cause I have to sleep sitting up. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this done. Most medical procedures don't bother me. but this one scares me.

Glad all is ok. Maybe it is allergies? Hope that you feel better soon!

Glad everything came out okay. Hopefully the cough is just from alergies or something in the air and will clear up soon. I get that once in awhile and I suck on peppermints to help the cough.

everything came back OK. But I'm still coughing. My dr. is out of town till MOnday and I can't go back to work until he gives me something for the cough. This is getting to be ridiculous.

Cindy, glad to hear all went well. Will continue to pray for good results from the tissue samples.

Well, it's done! I was under for about an hour. Not sure what all they did--my lungs don't feel as congested, and I know they took some tissue samples. Won't have the results till Thursday or Friday. I'm glad it's over. And yes, it was a breeze. Guess I worried for nothing.

I too had something similar done. Didn't even know I had gone under until I was waking up. Zero pain for the entire thing. I too was nervous but it was a breeze. :)

Elaine--the hospital where I'll be going is where I work. So I know I'll be in good hands. Thanks, ladies, for all the support! I'll let you know how it goes.

Cindy~ The first hospital my dad went to was local and truly full of people who had no idea what they were doing. When he went to the next hospital the drs. were appalled that it had been done w/o anesthesia. My dad was so worried to have it again. But when he did - he was under- all of his worry was for nothing. Like I said - just a scratchy throat. I'm sure you will be fine. Sounds like they have common sense where you are going.

Cindy, I've had an endoscopy done and basically same type of thing...scope down my throat. I was out for the whole procedure. It's a piece of cake but I will keep you in my prayers that whatever the cause of your cough will be nothing serious and that you have a speedy recovery.

Cindy, I have had this done before and worried for nothing, its a piece of cake. Stop worrying and good luck on finding the root of your cough. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Elaine--I can't imagine it being done without anesthesia. They'll put a tube down my throat to help me breathe, I've never had any problems with that.
Jan--thanks for reassuring me! I'm probably worrying over nothing.

I had this done a few years back with no problems at all. I worried for nothing, felt nothing before, during or after.

My dad had several bronchoscopies done years ago. The first one was horrible because they did not put him under anesthesia. The others he had no problems with because they put him under. He said his throat felt a little scratchy, but really other than that it was fine because he was out. It is good that you are haivng it done under anesthesia. I am sure you will be fine after the test. I'll be praying for you.
