I love our family's oral surgeon! DD got her braces off a few weeks ago and her teeth cleaned last Friday. Both the ortho and dentist said the wisdom teeth were impacted and needed to be pulled. School starts in a month, we're hoping to take a mini-vacation next week, etc, etc. so I knew the timing would be an issue. I called our oral surgeon first thing Monday morning and explained the situation. THis guy is booked up over 2 months in advance! I asked if I could schedule her over Thanksgiving and the receptionist (she remembered our name from ds's 3 oral surgeries and dh's one) said she hated to see my daughter dreading it all that time since she's had problems with bleeding after surgery (tonsillectomy), etc. SHe put me on hold and came back to tell me that the surgeon would add her on THAT DAY at 4:00. Jenni hurried up and ate a light breakfast, since she had 30 more minutes before the no-food/water thing, and he cut them out that afternoon.

This was wonderful. She didn't have time to work up a fear or hear people's horror stories, the surgery went really well, and she's recuperating very nicely with just a little discomfort. I have to say, though, that I sure wish I'd had my video camera with me and running when surgery was over and we were taking her home. She was like a very happy drunk! My husband and I were laughing so hard we both cried. I know that sounds bad, but you simply had to be here. WE drove through the McDonalds drive-through to get her a milk-shake (to be fed with a spoon -- "No sucky for me", she kept saying in a happy sing-son), and when we got to the window and the lady said something about how much it was, Jenni sat up in her seat (which was reclining), started doing the beauty queen wave and singing "There she goes, Miss America"! The rest of the time she alternated between holding her hands up in the air and going "wheeeee" (like on a roller coaster) and saying hilarious stuff.

Oh, I almost forgot. WHen they were trying to wake her up after the surgery, she kept falling asleep. WHen we got back there, I said, "Jenni, it's time to go home." She bolted upright, with her eyes still shut, started crying, and wailed, "I don't have a home. I'm homeless. I live in a camper! Are we poor?" The nurse looked at me like I was nuts!!!! What a hoot!

Some people search for happiness; others create it.
