Posted - May 19 2011 : 4:56:36 PM Do any of you suffer from large varicose veins? I had surgery on one leg years ago, but I have them developing in my right now. After a 6 mile bike ride, I have a painful one, right in my knee area. I drink honey/apv water every day to help, but this one hurts. I am exercising, but cannot walk for several more weeks. Do any of you that suffer, use a natural topical treatment?

Posted - Jun 14 2011 : 07:17:51 AM I was told to take more vitamin c and apply witch hazel topically. I have a problem with veins in my legs during pregnancy and after about a month post delivery they start to go away. . . I know mine is hormonal for now but when I did take more vitamin c I did notice that after being on my feet and exercising or doing yardwork my veins don't pop out and throb. It's the worse dull/achy/ can't get rid of pain ever! I feel your pain!

Posted - Jun 11 2011 : 08:49:38 AM Thank you all. I will have to buy lard, as I do not have pigs as planned this year. I think I saw it in the grocery store also.
Tammyb, does the cream you use help you? Have you seen good results?

Posted - May 27 2011 : 08:12:17 AM I have a book that says to soak a facecloth in witch hazel and lay that on your leg veins for relief. I've never tried it, though.
I have bad veins (thanks kids) and had one leg stripped. Now the other leg has gone really ropey-looking at the upper thigh--gross.
I tried the horse chestnut, but it didn't do much and was expensive, so I stopped.
I hate summer...I have to stay covered up so people won't see the veins, and I am always so hot.

Horse chestnut--NOT black walnut
Not sure why it's so expensive.
In the short term you may be better off trying the lard remedy, but next time I go to the store, I'll take a look |

Posted - May 22 2011 : 8:06:25 PM Here is a salve that may help with your legs.
Varicose vein Salve: 1 pound lard, 2 heaping handfuls marigold flower heads and leaves, chopped up. Heat lard until it crackles. Remove from heat and add chopped-up marigolds. Do not boil. Stir well. Cover and let stand overnight. Heat again and put through strainer or old cloth. Pour into jars and store in a cool place. Put on legs as needed.

Posted - May 22 2011 : 12:27:09 PM I blew out a vein during auteine biopsy a few years ago. I started wearing compression stockings. My problem areas are in my knees and calf but my Dr said knee high stockings would be fine versus pantyhose. I buy a brand called MediPed. They wear like socks. Thick and durable. I wish they had more colors but they are basic. I used to get them at Walgreens, but they stopped carrying them. You can get them online. |

Posted - May 21 2011 : 7:25:17 PM I also work at a Health Food store. We have Horse Chestnut for vein problems and Vein gard lotion. I am currently using both for my spider veins which appeared last year. Try to not cross your legs as that will also help. Tammyb

Posted - May 21 2011 : 12:27:18 AM There's a cream called varigone that is really good, it also comes in capsules. Just don't use it if you're taking anything for blood thinning.

Posted - May 20 2011 : 04:14:52 AM Yes, they were stripped from one leg. These are more than spider veins - all from carrying 5 babies and giving birth. My joyous rewards from them - ha ha!
They do hurt. I put ice on my knee last night, but it's still purple and enlarged. I have to say I am worried. I can't see a doctor today, but may have to call to make an appt.
Can you tell me the name of the salve? We have a nature store in a city nearby, and I may be able to get it there.
Thanks.

Posted - May 19 2011 : 5:25:32 PM I have the genetic disposition for these and have spider veins on the back of one knee.
Some days your legs just ache I bet.
Our local health food store carries a slave that has black walnut in it.
It costs around 25.00
At night I elevate my legs on a foam wedge while reading. Anything to ease the tightness and throbbing I know!
Were your veins stripped?
Thankfully I'm not to that point yet.
And as a last resort, compression stockings or support pantyhose help. But obviously not in the summer! |
