Posted - Jul 11 2006 : 11:46:39 AM About 10 years ago I had a malignant melanoma on my right forearm. Because of that I am faithful to go have my skin checked yearly by my dermatologist. I also do it monthly at home. Today I had another mole removed that looks suspicious. I won't get the byopsy back for a couple of weeks but the doctor says she doesn't think it is cancerous.
Just wanted to encourage all of you to please be vigilant about checking your skin and going to the doctor once a year for a complete body skin check. Wear sunscreen and be sure to wear a hat when you're outside.
Okay -- I'm done mothering now!
I choose faith not fear.

Posted - Jul 11 2006 : 3:44:43 PM Oh Kay, I am so with you. I've had 9 surgeries for skin cancer in the last few years. Fortunately none of them have been melanoma but instead, basal cell carcinomas, which are superficial skin cell cancers that are easily removed. Still, I go to my dermatologist every 6 months and am very faithful. I wear suncreen and am trying to wear long sleeve shirts more often..I just get too hot. I wear hats constantly.. My thoughts are with you as you wait!! Julia Hayes

Posted - Jul 11 2006 : 1:11:53 PM As a fairly fair-skinned person who has tons of moles, this is something I need to be more careful about. I've put you on my prayer list -- please keep us posted.
