We moved into a farmhouse about 30 minutes from our old place. We didn't know it at the time but we moved into a pretty swampy area. The mosquito's are out and after I get bit I break out into a rash, a pretty painful not really itchy rash. Plantain is just coming out but it doesn't sooth the rash. Any idea's what I can do? I had been asking around and I found out there are other people that have a hard time with mosquito bites as well but so far no answers. The problem is even in the sun I get bit by mosquitos. I just came in from the garden and I have two new bites and they are just throbbing.
I heard witch hazel might help, but I have to get to the store to get some. Anything else I could do to help the mosquito problem and what can I do to help the rash from the bites? Thanks in advance!

Krystle, what about planting some onion or garlic, also bats are a good predator for mosquito control. |

That's all we need is a rise in mosquito borne illnesses. That makes mosquito control all that much more important. |

Rachel, I also heard that there is going to be a rise in mosquito born illnesses this year due to the warm winter we had. I'm not the only one that has reactions to these bites, my poor daughter got a bite yesterday and it swelled up to bigger than a 50 cent piece. I put some olive oil balm with calendula in it (it's actually for baby's bottoms) and it helped the "owwie" on her arm. I need to get some more calendula in the house because I"m out! I'm just glad I remembered the baby's cream had some in it!

Chickweed and calendula are also helpful. Plain old rubbing alcohol works great too. Also if you have green clay, mix 1/2 tsp with 2 tsp of water and apply it to the bites, it is supposed to help but I have not tried that--just got that tidbit from a webinar I took last night. Also according to the doctor who did that webinar, there is an expected increase in mosquito born illnesses this year due to the warm, dry winter we had (also for ticks and ants).

If you have an aloe plant, snip off some and put it directly on the bites. Works well on fire ant bites too! I swell up when bitten by mosquitoes & fire ants so this is a remedy that I use regularly.

I don't know about having lemon balm, but we almost always have bananas! Thanks for the tip

I just read on another forum that the inside of a banana peel. rub it on your skin. Also you can try lemon balm, if you have the plant you squeeze the plant then rub it on the mosquito bites. |

it helps slightly, but the essential lavender oil works with in seconds for me. The baking soda and water only slightly helps me but doesn't completely take the itch and swelling away for me.

I have not tried it, but I've heard that you can make a paste of water and baking soda to put on the bites. This is supposed to take down the swelling and relieve itching. I've just discovered that I have reactions to black fly bites. Man do I swell right up! I get huge welps that feel really hard and the itch is unbearable! This last for almost two weeks before subsiding. Good luck to you.

lavender essential oil works the best for me in relievement. And yes you can be allergic I am, I swell up huge with them. In the mean time, try to get some bats, and spiders to eat them.
