Posted - May 07 2011 : 12:20:01 AM I've been using a shampoo called Renpure Organics that my mother introduced to me, but all it's been doing is giving me a VERY itchy scalp, and turned it red as if it's sunburned! It works great for my mom, so maybe it's something in the ingredients that I'm allergic to? Still, I'd like to find an alternative that I might be able to use that isn't full of all sorts of chemicals, but doesn't go over $6 for a decent sized bottle (Renpure lasted me a good three months).
A Shoshone woman told me that sagebrush water works great as a shampoo, but of course, I have no idea where to get that (is there sagebrush in Moscow?), so if any of you girls know of some sort of alternative, that'd be great! I'm tired of being itchy!

Posted - May 13 2011 : 3:11:41 PM I also swear by the ACV. I also do a deep conditioning treatment of 1 part conditioner, 1 part honey, and 1 part Aloe Vera Gel. I'd imagine the Aloe Vera would be really good at soothing your scalp. :)

Posted - May 11 2011 : 10:16:44 AM Actually Felicia my dd's are half african american, (well slightly more then half) and their hair can be really really frizzy and poofy and so the ACV is awesome for them. In fact, I use a dollar store spray bottle and fill it mostly up with water and add a little acv and spray their hair with it each morning before combing, helps detangle and makes their curls more soft then tight and frizzed.

Posted - May 11 2011 : 06:38:00 AM I've never heard of using cider vinegar on hair. I'll have to give this a try.

Posted - May 10 2011 : 4:03:52 PM Thanks a lot, guys! I'll have to try that once I get paid so I can go to the co-op :) And I don't mind limp, straight hair. I actually hate how poofy my hair can get, so that's perfect! lol

Posted - May 10 2011 : 1:08:33 PM baking soda and ACV does great for us.
The only warning I have, is the ACV is a conditioner, and if you want to have wild spikey hair don't use! lol It makes it kind of limp and straight. If you are going for limp and straight then good though! lol I use it only for conditioning once in a great while if I find my hair getting a bit dry. Other wise just the baking soda.

Posted - May 10 2011 : 12:52:12 PM I do a baking soda scrub every other day or three. And I also use apple cider vinegar every third day, after I do the scrub. I have eczema on my hands, and the sodium laureth (or laurel) sulfate that is in all kinds of soaps, aggravates it. That's why I switched. Never gonna go back either! My hair is very curly and very fine and now it is curlier and my husband says he thinks it's lighter in color too!

Posted - May 07 2011 : 05:46:49 AM I have started using cider vinegar and my hair looks awesome, my scalp feels so much better and I don't have flakes anymore. I also will mix with the vinegar with baking soda and do a good deep scrub once a month and I also do a soak with coconut milk (kind of like doing a hot oil treatment, I thoroughly soak my hair/scalp with the milk at room temp and put it up in a shower cap or warmed towel for 30 minutes or so then rinse) once per month and it keeps my hair from tangling so much (and it lasts about a month) and I have super long and super thick hair.
