I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and a couple other auto immune disorders. I was just wondering how many of you have the same deal?? Anyone with RA, or other auto immune stuff, like lupus, type 1 diabetes, thyroid trouble, etc...
Let's see if we can share info! What works for you?
What makes life easier?
What helps your pain?

I could use some farmgirl support!
Thanks
Love.
Kate

Karin
I am like you, I have tried so many different things.
I was first diagnosed when I was only 11, and took high doses of motrin, and some sulfa drugs.
Next was oral gold.
As I grew older, and had complications with my heart and lungs I took lots of prednisone---hate it!
I have also been on the cancer fighters, like methotrexate,etc...I have even had to do the super expensive DMRADs, like Enbrel injections and Arava.
Luckily I have been better lately.
I know it is because I have eliminated food allergies from my diet. It isn't fun, and it is really hard to eat out, I can't have any dairy, or gluten. But it is worth it for me.
Those hard core drugs are so BAD for your body!

As for non-conventional medicine, I have done massage, energy work similar to Reiki, herbs, but the biggest success has been changing my diet.

I had all of the silver fillings removed That was super expensive and painful, but it helped me overall. I don't think they are good for everyone, but I don't think they are so bad for everyone...just me, my immune system was so worn out!

I find one of the toughest part of chronic illness is not only the pain, but the fatigue!! Waking up tired is no fun!

I cannot take ibuprofen either, it does a number on me..

I would recommend at least trying a gluten free diet,
Have you been tested for Celiacs?
Look into it.

Tell me more,,,,,
Love and hugs to you, sister.

Howdy, Kate!

I have ulcerative colitis, which is thought to be an auto immune disease. My first symptoms appeared when I was pregnant with my daughter, then I was diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis in February of 1996. In April of that year I had a major flare and it moved throughout my colon. I've been battling it ever since.

I've tried so many things... Conventional meds. in the beginning, including a colitis med., prednisone (ugh), and low doses of a cancer drug. Then I spent a few months using less traditonal methods and medicines. I worked with an allergist for awhile. And I even had three teeth removed that had been root canaled or had adhesive on them. I've had two remissions that were welcome but not long enough. The last one ended in December of 2004. I had to start taking ibuprofen after the tendonitis in my right arm got too painful to tolerate and that caused a flare up that hasn't gone away.

Sometimes it's better and sometimes it's worse. Now and then I take colitis meds. but I HATE them! They are sulphur based and EVERYTHING ends up yellow: my clothes, countertops, towels, etc.

What kinds of things do you do for RA?

Sorry we have to have something like an auto immune disease in common!
