Does anyone have a herbal way to get rid of poion ivy or oak on my hands! It is driving me nuts! I am afraid I am going to get it in my eyes or something! I had one of my friends tell me to wash my hands in gas but I haven't been brave enough to do this yet..... does it work???

planitain, comfrey and jewelweed are wonderful... plantain you can just crush and apply, comfrey and jewelweed can be made into a tea and put on the skin...
If you do not have these available ASAP, tehn I suggest diaper cream ( like balmex) , that will place a barrier and also help draw the oils while keeping the skin moist....
..I feel your pain, mine ALWAYS goes into blisters if I don't catch it early

I have heard to wash where ever you touched it in bleach as soon as possible. You can also make a tincture with plantain leaves crushed with jewel weed and aloe gel. You can look those 2 plants up to see what they look like. The jewel weed is supposed to grow near poison ivy. I hope you are ok tonight. I am so sorry I didn't see this or I would have posted sooner.

Hi Karla,
This isn't herbal but going swimming at an inside pool where the water is treated with clorine will take care of poison ivy. There are pills that you take at the start of the ivy season and then every three weeks after that. They are called "Poison Ivy Pills" and they are herbal and can be purchased at the drug store. They work best at the beginning of the season to help prevent you getting it. I actually had to get the poison ivy shot this year and I can get it in January off the firewood.

I don't know if this works, but I've read that putting raw (has to be raw) honey on it is a good cure. I don't get poison ivy very often so I don't know.
