For you ladies who have gone through it or are going through it now or know that you are at the onset...could you help a gal out here. :)

Did you ever feel like you were ready to bust out of your skin? lol I know, it sounds crazy, but I swear that it feels like my body is doing this fight sequence on the inside and my skins just sort of holding it all in.
My GYN says that I am starting all the fun things to prepare for menopause. I am soooo NOT ready for this!
I'd love a heads up on what to expect. Is it going to be all bad? Will I continue to be this hormonal basket case for the rest of my life? (You laugh, but that's really what it feels like.)

I thought maybe my farmgirls sisters could help me out on this one. ;)

Thanks, LaVonna, I will send you an e mail in case I ever get another rash like this. I finally gave up and went to see a dermatologist on Tuesday and he told me it's not menopause related and gave me a prescription for a corticosteroid cream, that is working; rash is almost gone and I feel like I can go back to work today. I prefer natural solutions whenever possible but I was soooo miserable that I just wanted it to go away asap so I could go back to work.

well this is most interesting. I am turning 45 next week and while I still have my friend I am sure I am starting the early signs of menopause and I thought maybe that was crazy. I have just decided to try and be open minded and go with it...the hot flashes don't bother me either as I have always been cold...os this was rather refreshing...that makes me laugh in a way who knew

I've been dealing with menopause for quite a few years now, the hot flashes aren't quite as bad or frequent now, I hate the bad memory thing though and the chin hairs....I plucked for awhile but more and more kept coming in and plucking didn't seem to make mine any less wirey and that's the thing I hate most but this weekend I've got something new happening. This awful rash suddenly developed under my arms, under my boobs and on my neck. I've been trying everything to make the horrible itching stop and make the blasted thing go away. I started out with a paste of baking soda that didn't really help so next was a concoction of oatmeal mixed with milk and stevia, helped a little but not for long and it was very drying which made the itch worse. I've tried aloe gel, lavender oil, and I've just brewed a cup of strong chamomile tea which I will pat on after my next shower. Anyone else experiencing this? I don't know what else it could be, I have no allergies but I have no pets anyway, haven't been tramping through the woods so it can't be poison oak, haven't changed deoderants or soaps or shampoos or detergent and all I use are natural based products, I'm not on any medications. GRRRRRR, this is so furstrating and I am SOOOO open to suggestions. Gosh all friday, just when I think I'm getting through this POW, something new to deal with. Maybe alcohol....like a bottle of really good wine? ;D

I find that depending on what I eat the hot flashes get worse or better. I am on the downside of this thank goodness, but my grandmother in law had hot flashes in to her 80's.

Oh I know this is frustrating but I just had to laugh at the wiry hairs. lol! I get them too but I refuse to shave them so I pluck. Shaving doesn't get rid of them altogether and plucking them will cause them to come in less coarse.

I second the suggestion to have your thyroid checked. Many doctors don't suggest this and it helps many women. My doctor kept telling me it was approaching menopause and that my thyroid wasn't "that bad". After years of suffering, an endochronologist actually said - I can't believe your primary care doctor let this go. A few months on meds and I was a new woman. Helped the skin, hair, emotions, etc., etc. Also, in the last few years the normal standard for thyroid function has been changed - but many doctors cling to the old numbers, telling their patients they are within the normal range when they aren't. Have it checked.

OK, this will probably sound very strange. I can't even believe I'm thinking it after years of wishing to be done, no more period, cramps, etc. I'm now in the skipping stages and it feels like something is missing?

Wow - I am amazed at the misinformation being thrown about! I guess folk tend to think of menopause as a thing, unchanging...it's not. It's different for everyone. Trends run in families but just because mom went through it one way doesn't necessarily mean anything about your path through. Some of it may last the rest of your days, or it may all stop as suddenly as it started. You can start going through perimenopause at practically any age - I know someone who started in her early 20s. Any doctor who says otherwise hasn't kept up with the last 30 years of research. Having said that....there are trends that many follow. Purifying your environment of the more easily gotten rid of chemicals can help some folk, as can eating better. So much to deal with, men have no idea how easy they have it :)

I know this sounds funny, But I am Loving the whole menopause thing ! I am 52 but I sure don't feel it. With menopause I have kind of begun to figure out who I am.
I married at 18 had 2 kids by 21. All of my 20's 30's and most of my 40's I was busy being someone's wife or mom.
Since I turned 50 I am trying all kinds of things ! I bought a scooter and have had a blast riding it the last 3 summers. This year I decided to move up to something bigger and now I'm learning how to ride a motorcycle. I am enjoying traveling , going to spend first week in Oct in NYC and planning a vespa scooter trip through Italy in 2 years. Today I saw a piece on TV about a 90 year old woman who went skydiving.Heck I might give it a try.
I found out resently that I am going to get laid off for part of the winter, Jan through March or April. I am checking out class schedules at the local college. I always wanted to be a teacher and while I might not go for a full degrea I am going to try to get enough over the next 2 years that I can be an aide at the elementary school. I think that soulds like a fantastic way to end my working career !
Yes I do have some of the heat flashes and sleepless nights that come with this, but heck I'm saving a fortune not having to buy femminine products !

I hear ya on the sweating thing. I am buying a new brand of deodorant every weekend trying to get one to help. It's the pit..literally...lol O:)
It does make for interesting times. Thankfully, its still warm so tank tops help tremendously.

I started menopause over 2 years ago. The hot flashes were so bad that every 20 mins or so at work, I would turn beet red and sweat like a pig. I couldn't have that, it looks pretty unprofessional, and I couldn't sleep at night without a beach towel. I tried every natural herb I could find to no avail, finally the Dr put me on a low dose of drugs. Everything stopped and life is somewhat normal again. Sometimes you just gotta.

Oh the memory thing is the worse. I can handle the skipped "friend" or the change in length, but I can't remember from one second to the next. Lots of water!! I can always tell when I haven't and hadn't thought about connecting it to perimenopause. Such fun.

...it's all normal Jessie!
It is just on different levels for all women... some takes longer, some get through it quicker.
Mine is messing with my "focus". At times I feel like that I am loosing my mind because I can't exactly remember things on short term.
I really dislike this part of it. Hot Flashes.. I feel like that living in the South is a bad idea for this stage of my life... because even in the winter when everyone is all bundles up, I am in shorts and tanks.. and feels like the humidity never stops.... but what keeps me going is... "That shall too pass" The question is when? (shrugs)

Well, I started the whole thing with menopause when I was 38 and my doctor kept saying I was to young for menopause but didn't mention peri-menopause so I muddled through and finally stopped having my periods when I was 45.
I did get the book by Dr. John Lee and started using the natural progesterone. That seemed to help, plus b vitamins and borage oil. I went through the night sweats, don't have them as bad anymore, but the hot flashes still come. My mil is 69 and still has hot flashes as did her mom until she was in her late 70's. :( My mom and sister and I all went through the everything drove us nuts phase and a still have those moments. Just ask my husband. My kids were not as young as yours at the time so I'm sure it would add to things.
Sorry Jess, it ain't looking that grand for ya.
love ya,
~mom~

I'm hypothyroidal (low functioning Thyroid) and it stinks. I am cold and have dry skin, thinning hair, fits of nerves and depression and I gain weight just like that if I'm not ruthless....ok, I've gained weight anyway, but, some people respond better to the medicines than others do...I hope you aren't hitting menopause, You DO seem too young to me. But there is a pre-menopause state known as perimenopause...I have a pretty good book floating around the house some where I'll see if i can find it and send it off...if I can find it =

I'll take the lack of sympathy if it's thyroid, there's medicine for that..lol ;)

Jessie Have you had your thyroid checked? Wacky thyroid levels can make you have alot of the same symptoms of menopause, even cause your periods to be crazy and hair to fall out. Of course you won't get the sympathy for wonky thyroid as menopause but it's worth checking. LOL

howdy farmgirls, i too have spent years suffering with the hot flashes etc. i hate it for sure. early into this i learned to gress in layers so i can strip off as i get hot. make up would run down my face. for me i found lots of personal care products would trigger the hot flashes. i had known thet round up and other chemicals mimiced estrogen and made thigs worse. i had gotten so sensitive wallmart was one bih hot flash day as was macys etc. raw milk seems to help. its probably all the good fats in it at work. perfumes have petro chemicals in them so they are a strong trigger also. just a thought. happy days sherrye

Well, I am noticing alot of hair in the tub after I wash it. And I am a little more emotional. Didn't know those were part of it. I have been taking Evening Primrose oil for years so maybe that's helped me. And I am grinding flax seed and putting it in my smoothies. I think I need to look into getting some B complex and start that. I do get really irrate at the drop of a hat sometimes. SO maybe I am not as lucky as I thought with all this. But I am SO glad I don't have those horrible hot flashes. I don't like to be hot at all. Oh, and the last few years I have a hard time getting warm in the winter. I never thought I would not like winter but since I turned 50 a few years ago, I don't like the cold. I just thought it was getting old.

I can't spell, my hair is thinning, my middle is expanding, I have more hair on my legs these days, I have hot flashes so bad I feel like peeling my skin off, there are days when I wake up and think " do I want to run through the woods screaming at the top of my lungs or become addicted to infomercials today, I feel squirmmy in my skin, there are days when I am sure every symptom is a step to death, puppy chow commercials can send me to tears, car part commercials can send me to tears, just a few of the things to look forward to.......

In all seriousness ( all though I have or have had all these things happen), making sure you cut out alot of sugars, up the protein, take extra B vitamins , flaxseed, and evening primrose tablets have helped me alot along with a couple yin yoga classes tossed in a week for good measure....
