I just bought a Himalayan Salt Lamp yesterday, and was wondering if anyone else on the forum has one or has any experiences to share after using one...do these negative ions really help with health and general well-being like they say?

They did recommend at the store to put a plate under it, so I did. Thanks for the warnings about salt on furniture--the instructions say to keep it turned on as much as possible to repel moisture around the lamp.

So far I am sleeping well since I bought it...but then again I am on holidays this week, too! I was hoping it would help my husband, as he wakes up so stuffed up every morning. A real bonus would be if it helped with snoring, lol!

As for hype, I don't know, there is a lot of information out there about the benefits of these salt crystal lamps, and even books published...must be something to it (negative ion therapy).

The same thing happened to me. The salt dripped down and took the finish off of my fireplace insert. Salt is very corrosive. Now I have a plate under it and the amount of salt that comes off of it is amazing. But I notice nothing different with it. It was a gift so I keep it out. Other wise I do not believe the hype.

A friend gifted me with one and I put it on my nightstand for about a year. I have asthma and she thought it might help. I did feel better when I woke up in the morning - suprisingly so. The only down side I had was when I found salt crystals forming on the wood on the sides of the nightstand (family piece). I am not sure if it was because of having the windows open alot during the summer and that is where the moisture came from or what. I got rid of the lamp after that. I just could not trust it NOT happening again. I very rarely move the nightstand and it sits right in the corner of the room and that is why it went unnoticed for so long. I have read of it happening to other people so beware of where you have it and keep an eye on it. Good luck.
