Just out of curiosity, do you know of any ways to treat a bladder infection naturally? I know the tips for preventing them, but I'm wondering what helps when you actually get one...

Last time I had one it was so bad it turned into a kidney infection and they put me on Cipro. YUCK.

I think I might be getting another one (at 11 pm at night...grrr!) so any ideas? Is it something you can fight naturally or is it one of those things you have to go in for?

sorry to say this, but if you have a bad bladder infection, you need anti-biotics. Then you can do the preventive cranberry capsules. But do not let it get bad! There are times when anti-biotics are needed. This may be one of those times.

just a thought, my mom's dr says you have to drink a lot of juice to keep the infections away, and he recommeded she take the capsules and she hasn't had an infection in over a year and she was having them a lot. I always take a probiotics daily for a few months after being on any antibiotic. Pam

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies.
I had always heard that cranberry juice doesn't do anything once you HAVE a bladder infection, but will help prevent them. But who knows? I did try the cinnamon and honey - wow, now that is something to choke down!!

I did end up going to the doc since apparently when you have a really bad bladder infection or get a kidney infection (like I did last time) your bladder infections get worse faster. Like...you want to cry if you have to use the bathroom only 24 hours after you start thinking you might have an infection. At least that is what the doc told me. So I did get antibiotics. But I think from now on (since I'm prone to them) I might just stick with cranberry juice (the real unsweetened stuff!) as a precaution. (Which is hilarious, because when my hubby sees me with a glass of it, he thinks I'm drinking wine!)

In a pinch, cream of tarter in water will also help as will a decoction made from parsley.

I use cranberry juice and it works great. I use it for both bladder and kidney infections.

I take a cranberry cap every night and I don't get them at all.

I put off going to the Dr. I usually get a sulfa.

I was going to mention the cranberry capsules also. Keep them on hand and start taking them with LOTS of water when you feel one starting.

Forget buns of steel, I'd rather have buns of cinnamon!

Herbal cranberry capsules have worked for me once when I felt like I was just starting out with one. Hope you are O.K. and figure out what works.

We are fans of cranberry and water. When I think I am getting one, I try to down a gallon of cranberry juice then lots of water. It works for me.
There are many herbs such as butcher's broom, dandelion, garlic, goldenseal, marshmallow root and Uva Ursi. They all do different things to help.
