i don't normally get allergies too bad, but this morning i just woke up with a throbbing head, sinus pressue, and just feel like crap... i took an allergy pill, which usually works well, but to no avail. are there any natural remedies to help with this sinus pressure? maybe holding my head over steaming water mixed with some sort of essential oil?

I don't think the type of pot matters as long as you use it. In a pinch I have used a paper cup with one side of the rim pinched up to form a little spout and that worked fine.

Good luck with the allergies!

sounds great so far! I'm so happy there are lots of natural alternatives to pills! I received my first Lehman's catologue yesterday after ordering a batch of lamp wicks and there was a Neti Pot in there... I was wondering, are they easy to find in regular stores? I haven't tried looking, but I assume they are there as well... Is there only the name brand Neti Pot or are there other brands as well? If there are other brands, are they worth buying, do they work as well as the original Neti Pot brand?

And I'm happy to say, I mentioned this topic to my neighbor who just happened to have received a senior 4-H gift basket with a small jar of VERY local honey from this very town! So I took down the number and will give them a call soon.. I will also ask about the pollen you mentioned, prariehawk... thanks for the advice!

I'm also interested in the nettle tea, too...

Kris - how much vinegar and how much honey in the water?

Thanks.

I've found that besides eating local honey, is to find a bee-keeper who sells local bee pollen. Eat just a little bit at first--it gradually builds up your immunity. And since it's local, it works on all the things you are allergic to.

I agree 100% with everything posted thus far. I would also add freeze died nettle and nettle tea. You can get both from www.mountainroseherbs.com and it even tells you how to use it for allergies.

When it's allergy season I up my dosage of vitamin C (I get the ones with bioflavanoids added, most have that now anyway). It does help.

Elizabeth,
In the past I had regualr steroid injections throughout the Spring and Summer. About a year ago wanting to improve my health I stopped them. And I am currently taking a honey called Heavenly Health, which is a local product. It has local honey, pollen, royal jelly and propolis. This is great for allergies and energy. It has been working for me. You can find them at www.honeyheaven.com. Also, Natures Sunshine online, has some great natural allergy products.
Best of health to you,
Sheri

Try the nei pot. I swear by this thing.
Alos, to build up your immunity to local allergens you should eat LOCAL honey. I have been told if you can find honey "with the cap" that is even beter.

Elizabeth, I had allergies really bad. Had to go to the allergy specialist and take 2 different pills. I was allergic to almost everything farm. And that's where I live. And work. And breath. But I started drinking apple cider vinegar and LOCAL honey in a little bit of water. I tell you what, that stuff works! I do not take pills at all anymore. I just took them about 6 months anyway. But shoot, I can't afford prescriptions. But ya have to use organic unfiltered raw ACV. I get Bragg's. You should try it. It really does work, and for lots of other things, too. Even just taking a tablespoon of local honet every day will help with the allergies. Really. But it has to be honey from your area. Very local so it has all the pollens from where you live in it.

For a quick fix, some people say to put a few drops of essential oil such as peppermint or eucalyptus into the steaming water. For a longterm immunity to seasonal allergies, you can eat raw, local, in season honey. The bees eat the stuff you're allergic to, and then eating the honey keeps you from being allergic to those things. My dad had really bad seasonal allergies, and then we started getting the honey and it helped a LOT! It does have to be raw, local, and in season, so it contains the things you need.
