I can't find Diana's post when her daughter was due about what to do for over due babies....
My daughter was due with her first son last Monday the 15th. The midwife won't induce her until Thursday. She does have an appt. today, but when she was there on Friday she just was not dilated very much.
She would be willing to try castor oil, but I had heard that it's not good for the baby and can't remember why?
She is not a normally very active person anyways, so is not inclined to get up off the couch and walk! lol! Although I do keep telling her it would be good for her and the baby!

A side note-
castor oil does not work well when the cervix is not " ripe"- soft and somewhat dialated. It just cleans you out! Studies have shown that mother and baby must both release certain hormones for labor to start. So castor oil tends not to work as well when mom or baby are not really ready- in the hormonal sense. it will jumpstart a labor that is already " near." Even modern medicine cannot induce labor 100% of the time.

You know.... sometimes babies just take a little longer to come to term. My first was almost a month late and I knew the exact weekend that I got pregnant because my sailor husband was home on a weekend pass. LOL.
Dr.s weren't so anxious to induse back in 1971 and she came when she was ready and was healthy .
My second daughter was also about 3 weeks late.

Tried it with my first one, over 40 years ago. Didn't work, but BOY, was I cleaned out!

My daughter will be going in tomorrow night(Wednesday) for an induction. She went naturally with her first, and was induced with the next 2.
Can't wait! :)

Wouldn't advise it, It tastes nasty and, like Diana said, makes for a messy delivery. Plus it can cause dehydration, and make you just feel miserable. And late pregnancy is miserable enough. Just have her walk, keep hydrated. Good luck, the baby is almost here!

castor oil causes intestinal cramping and loose bowels. The one time I accidentally ate some it was in misery for hours!

Well come to find out the castor oil is not so good. It will really make a mess out of delivery if you catch my drift and it tastes bad and it isn't great for the baby. She needs to Walk and it will help.
