Posted - Feb 19 2010 : 1:34:39 PM Since Tuesday, my almost 7 year old has had an up and down temp (normal to 104), zinging around within hours of each other. No meds. One minute he's fine, an hour later he's flat on his back. He threw up once this morning (Friday). He still has an appetite. I'm assuming its the same thing grandma and his cousin had - we saw them at a party last weekend.
New symptom though, and he would like to know your suggestions (we've been researching on the computer for awhile, and we decided to ask the "farmgirls".) :) Now one of his eyes are swollen, bright red, and has greenish yellow discharge coming from them. Colton says: Sometimes it itches, it doesn't burn...it feels like someone hit me in the eye. We can't see anything in his eye. Ideas? Is it pink eye? Something else? We aren't a run-to-the-doc kind of family...only if we need to.
Colton would greatly appreciate your advice. :)

Posted - Feb 20 2010 : 04:29:39 AM The high fever was something else. Another illness he got at a family birthday party that two other people got as well. The pink eye was on top of it. He looks so miserable. I am pretty sure that the high fever part is gone...at least so far this morning it is...but dang, does his eye look nasty! His little brother is sure that Colton will be blind forever. :(

Posted - Feb 19 2010 : 7:55:26 PM Ah, poor kid. That is no fun at all. But with such a high fever? We have had pink eye before but no fever. I sure hope no one else gets it, too. Keep your hands washed and try not to touch your eyes! I hope he gets over it soon.

Posted - Feb 19 2010 : 5:11:38 PM I would think a temp of 104 would be a reasn to get him to a doctor. That is in the really scary range. When kids have high temps it's NOT something to mess around with!

Posted - Feb 19 2010 : 1:56:56 PM Since it is Friday I''d get him to a doc, the eye condition is going to be pretty contagious. Sounds like what my kids had when they had pink eye. You guys use lots of good handwashing, and good luck, Carol

Posted - Feb 19 2010 : 1:46:28 PM Amy ,I really think a visit to the doc would be appropriate. Just to at least ease your concerns if nothing else.
