I was e-mailing to a friend last night describing my "symptoms" to see if they were anything like what she had experienced. She had severe mood swings and depression and is actually on something that is placed under the skin on her hip. It lasts for 3 months

W/in the past 2 months here lately, there have been 2 episodes of extreme rage and night sweats.

I am a very impatient person anyway, but this lashing out has me worried.

And with it being so cold and wanting to wrap up and bundle, I thought the sweats were from wearing too many layers to bed. There have been times when the sweat is literally ROLLING off my forehead.

True, hubby likes to keep the house really toasty, but I blocked the register in the bedroom, so it's a lot cooler.

i'll be making an apointment for the dr. today anyway just 'cause I want to see what my hormone levels are.

In the meantime, are there any teas or tinctures out there to level out one's moods. If it's something I'll have to drink daily, that's ok. It's sure not worth feeling like I want to kill people when I;m normally the sweet, quiet wallflower

And I totally had a senior moment that about sent me through the windshield when I stomped on the my husband;s truck break thinking I was in my truck and had to mash the clutch. OOPS! I'll not do that again. Luckily no one was around

I do remember my mother on menopause; I was in my senior year of high school. She was very very angry, so when I went through it with my teen-aged children, every time I got furious, I remembered her. I didn't give them that memory.

But what did help is John R. Lee's book, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause. I got it from the public library. Whether it was applying the book's advise or just my body, I had few hot flashes. The brain fog was intense and memory non-existent until I did what the book suggested. When I used the Zand progesterone cream, 21 days on, 7 days off, applied a different place on your body each time, the fog lifted.

Have hope in your heart, and darkness has no home.

I posted that line about trading my menstrual cycle in for a motor cycle! I have used that one numerous times. I used to ride, had a WWII military Royal Enfield and a big, white Yamaha V-star cruiser. Sold them both last year so we can buy some farm land. I always wanted to put that saying on a t-shirt. LOL I had a hysterectomy when I was only 26. Whenever I went to the doctor the nurse would always ask when was your last menstrual cycle? I would say, I traded it in for a motor cycle. Usually they did not get the joke.

Omg, reading these posts...sounds familiar to what I'm going through the past year, I turned 46 this past November. I started my periods at nine yrs old, so I'm wondering if I'm starting the change early?? I hate people lately, and everything is a crisis to me. I just want to be alone. In the car I run the heater on my feet and crack the window for "fresh air", and cannot wear turtle necks!! Did someone say Black Cohosh?? I've also heard of wild yam? Please go on and feel free to explain further what ever any of you know about this topic, as I am ALL EARS!!

I am so happy I found this!!!! For the last several weeks I have been experiencing severe night sweats, forgeting things & MOOD SWINGS (poor dh)...

At first I thought all of this was from an abundance of medication. I had been very sick for months with pneumonia, whooping cough, bronchitis, & asthma (very bad). About 2 months ago I was in the hospital for all of this and was given 500mg of IV prednisone a day, IV antibiotics, breathing treatments every 2 hours (with liquid cocain in it to help stop bronchial spasms), oxygen, & IV morphine ( I coughed so hard I seperated the muscles attached to the ribs)...Sooo with all the meds I thought that was the problem. BUT I have been off medication for about 6 weeks. However I will be 50 in April and I had a partial hysterectomy a few years ago sooooo I guess this is the big M

I have a DR appointment next week. I want to try the natural route first but hubby has to live through this too

We shall see......

Marjean,
Thanks a bunch! Lots of information there. I have to admit I don't even know how to find a homeopathic doctor in our area ...

Anna,
You are the first one that has said you have that same symptom. Is it a sudden really sharp pain that makes you grab your side? That is how mine is. And, mine too isn't every month. But, when it starts it is scary.

Penny,
To answer your questions about doctors and test. I see a homeopathic doctor as well as the primary just to compare notes. I havn't been to the Gyno yet and really need to go. Without insurance I have to save up the money first and then can go. I know they'll want to do the ultra sound and I have to check around for the best price, low $100's would be nice.

My homeopathic doctor seems to think that the thyroid is the most serious thing in women to fix first. Her mother died from ovarian cancer and her thyroid was never right. Her own cancer markers are an indication that she could go the same route so she did a ton of research and found it did all start with the thyroid.

So, she is now focusing on mine to save me from more cancer problems, which I am suseptable to. She does hormone testing on me every year through Neuro Science which is a part of Blue Cross and Blue Shield. They do take several insurance companies. The test runs around $400.00 which includes the neuro-transmitters because women tend to get low in a lot of things that effect our over-all health.

I've been so happy with the test and the products.YOu can buy the kits directly from this website www.ovitaminpro.com or call the company for doctor's who use that testing in your area.

If you have depression issues it is your serotonin and the products really work. My score should have been in the 200 range and it was below 100. After 1 year it started getting better, I have an absorbtion problem so for me it took that long.

Now, I have no more depression and sleep a lot better. My levels are in the normal range. If you don't go to a doctor that understands brain chemistry with this kind of testing they look at you like your nuts. Been there done that!

What I like about this kind of medicine is that she can test for what product you need that will work best for your body. We are not identical and what works for one person won't work good for another.

It's called computron testing. If you can find a doctor in your area that uses that you'll be happy and amazed at how much better you'll feel.

I take my DD to her, who is 20 and whenever she has a virus or whatever. She tests her and it usually stems from a candida infection. So she says get off sugar, fruit, yeast, vinegar and you'll stop getting sick.

She puts all her patience on this diet. You'll loose weight and feel better. If you're diabetic she suggests a vegetarian diet as well. She lost 30 pounds following that plan.

Hope I helped in some small way.

I also get the ovary pain.......not every month though.

It's always on the right side rarely on the left. More annoying than anything really.

and doesn't it get worse this time of the year!! 2 other vitamins worth thinking about are Vitamin D and B12. I noticed a big difference when I added them especially for the mental fogginess. I think I actually took 50000 units/day of vitamin D for ?? weeks and then went down to 1-2000 after that. B12 was a consistent dosage from the beginning. I haven't been very good about taking them recently, but the snow has got me down so am going to have to get back on track.

For mood swings the best thing was a couple of goats My 18 year old son even noticed that I'm happier after milking goats. But that's not something I enjoy in the middle of winter so they and I get winter's off.

I don't consider myself menopausal (and doctor has never suggested it) but they also don't seem interested in checking hormone levels (they will prescribe medications for symptoms tho -- Discontinued after I got the goats) Has anyone had a "good doctor" experience and can give some guidance on questions or tests we can suggest with our doctors ... and what kind of doctor were they?

I've been having similar issues for the past couple of months (and am only 33) I went to the doc and she told me it was from an h. pylori infection. I don't think so!! I spoke with my herbalist and she recommended iodoral, thyroid and adrenal supplements. As long as I take those I feel much better, the symptoms are tons better, but I still have them.

A Menopause support group! Just what we need. My awareness that I was going through something hormonal started back 2 1/2 years ago. It all started with a sharp pain in my lower right abdomen and would go down my leg.

I was diagnosed with PAD through a diagnostic testing, but never went for further tests. So, I thought what is going on now. Then, I thought about having a hernea operation when I was 6 years old on the left side and that maybe I had one now on the right.

Just trying to figure out what it could be. I went to the dr. and they checked and said it wasn't my appendix. So, I started keeping a more watchful eye on when it came and went. I could fix it around the time of my cycle, so I did some online research and came up with ovary pain.

My cycle started getting heavier and just different around the same time frame. Every now and again I'll have two in the same month. The hot flashes started about 5 years ago and drove me nuts and was brought on from my Lyme disease and thryoid disease.

So, my doctor thinks that the throid which controls hormones too could be the cause of early menopause. So first she is going to fix the tyroid and then see what happens with my cycles. If not any better with this pain then she will go into the female are.

She does want me to get an ultra sound on the abdomen to rule out every possibility.

I am so glad to know that my mood swings are coming from this and not that I'm loosing my mind. I take plant based supplements that balance the brain chemistry due to the Lyme and I was worried something had stopped working. Whew! Just menopause!lol

I sat my Dh down and said honey these are the things you do that set me off, please don't do them until I can get past these fellings of aggitation. We laughed and he said okay honey, I'll try! Bless his heart! He is a keeper for sure!

Having no children of my own, I'm not too sure about cesarians causing menoapause. It's all chemical/hormone or lack thereof, but you just never know! If you have a female well-woman dr, I'd ask anyway

My monthly cycle has always been kind of crazy mostly from being on the pill. This past month I didn't have much period at all! You gotta love that! HOWEVER!!! Like you said, I can track the good week and almost guarantee the next 3 will be bad.........like crabby bad and the cravings.

I have significantly cut out sodas, and limit myself to about 1 1/2 a day and cut that off around noon. I'll drink seltzer water rest of the day. So maybe the cravings are a cry for more caffiene.

and I know cutting out the salty and sugary, starchy foods do help w/ mood swings and such. As does increased physical activity.

Pity when we sweat those bucket loads it can't be during a workout or something!

Dear Anna, I just read this entire message and I feel for you. I am only 39 and have been feeling this way for a few years, about 5 now. I have horrible mood swings, but they seem to be diminishing to mild now. I think I am still having hot flashes, just last night my hubby rolled over to snuggle and backed off quick because I was so hot and my hair and chest are always soaked with sweat. My cycle has not diminished at all...I actually think it is worse and hate it now...never used to bother me, but now all I think about is how to get rid of it. My hubby and I agree that I usually have only one good week a month and than I have serious "pre, during and post" symptoms....it is getting old. Have been to a doctor about it and completely dismissed because I am too young. But I know something isn't right. My Mom felt that because I had 3 cesearans that might have pushed my body into early menopause...but I don't know. Any advice you have would be appreciated. Hugs, Erica

Thanks for the info!

You have no idea have weird it was telling someone the other day- I am now 41. (or maybe you do! I don't feel it (most days) but it's crazy when everyone arond you is still in their 30's and even 20's. THAT makes me feel old!

The mood swings have subsided for now, and the constant cravings have kicked in. I guess all the weight gain comes from giving in.

I'll be so glad when warmer weather gets here so I can stay outside and play in the garden!

Anna - I just posted this same information as a response to Catherine's frustration with menopause; I hope it will help you, too. One of my dearest friends was having a terrible time with this. Raging, mood swings, night sweats, sleeplessness, lack of concentration, poor memory, etc. She had them to the max, too. It was horrible. She finally sought out a doctor who works with bio-identical hormones. I don't know much about them, but I swear to you, once she was on them, it was like night and day - she was her happy old even-keeled self again! She found out the names of others in our area who worked with them, and apparently a nurse practitioner at one of the local doctors' offices also works with them. I highly recommend looking into it. Like I said, I honestly don't know enough about it to go into detail, but I do know it changed the quality of her life for the better - and that of everyone around her - immensely. I'll be looking into it myself when the time comes. :) - Nini

Oh, Thank the powers that be that I'm normal!! Like others, I don't seem to have too bad of night sweats (so far) but I can't remember squat unless I write it down...then I lose the list, which frustrates me no end and I get upset.

Just the other day in MN, hubby said something 'wrong' and I went nuclear. Not just mad but rage-like. I scared myself!! I actually felt like I was levitating, does that make sense?? Hubby went toe to toe with me and I just couldn't believe I did that. Lashing out is putting it mildly. So, I'm really working on not letting the small stuff bother me. Hubby is being very supportive and I'm very lucky to have him!!

The weight gain is frustrating too. The energy power outages drive me nuts.

It's really a good thing I don't work behind a counter in a store. I don't have the patience to put up with stoopid people.

That's about the age I was when my cycles stopped too. I am now 52. I seem to only get hot flashes in the evening after dinner but not everyday anymore. Hopefully I am over that hump. It was the not sleeping well at night that drove me nuts.

I had hot flashes and all of the other symptoms...my cycle kept getting shorter and shorter and two years ago stopped all together...I'm only 49, but my doctor seems to think all is normal. I sometimes still get the flashes, but am other wise happy to hopefully be over the hump and out the other side.

I had a complete hysterectomy at age 49 so I started having hot flashes, etc. immediately. I didn't go the natural route. My doctor put me on the Vivelle-Dot patch which my insurance pays for. It has done the job, I believe. I haven't regretted the hysterectomy, either.
