I need some recommendations to help relieve Winter dry skin. I see lots of products to try, but I don't want to spend the money and it not work or leaves my skin greasy, etc. Lotions, soaps, any ideas?

I know this post is old, but I hope this will help other people who read this post.

After self-diagnosing myself with eczema, I read a lot about it, and here is THE BEST information I followed! Take 2-3 warm (not hot!) showers or baths a day. I do one in the morning and one just before bed. WITHIN 3 MINUTES of getting out of the bath, you must use a moisturizer and don't be skimpy with it! I use CeraVe, which is available at WalMart and it was on the VERY bottom shelf (I guess cause it works??? lol) It is about 14 dollars a bottle, but I am telling you I have suffered with itchy, dry skin for a year (!!!!) and after a couple of days of using this, it is virtually GONE. Some days I may be a little tiny bit itchy, but it is NOTHING compared to where I was! I have been doing this for about 2 months now and I am tickled pink!

I hope this will help y'all out. Remember that moisturizers are designed to keep the moisture in the skin, they do not add moisture to the skin! That's why you have to moisturize after a bath. Good luck!!!

Oh! AND you can't just use ol' 'regular' soap. I now use Dove Sensitive Skin and it is wonderful (no more peeling, cracking skin!), but I'd love to try something homemade. :0)

I am allergic to many cosmetic ingredients. I use olive oil also as a skin moisturizer. I put it in my bath water and soak. I pat myself dry so I don't rub off all the oil when I get out. It really makes a difference. Sometimes I add lavender EO just for the relaxing part.

I've used olive oil before too and it does work well. Using a natural soap without perfumes really helps too. My daughter also likes to do short facial steam baths with chamomile tea--relaxing if nothing else!

I make lotion bars and just love them. Here is a super simple recipe that I can whip up in no time and you change the measurements if you want to make more or less.

3 oz. beeswax
3 oz. coconut oil
3 oz. cocoa butter

Melt slowly over low heat, pour into mold & let cool. That's it!

Renee,

Use extra virgin olive oil. After you shower use the olive oil. It will not be greasy after your skin drys. The vitimin E in olive oil is great for the skin. I use it on my face and body. I use it daily and have noticed a big difference. I also take a flax oil/fish oil supplement which helps the skin. Hey I see that we don't live to far apart. Hope this helps!!

I love straight Coconut oil. I use it on my hands, face and hair. A little goes a long way.

Our favorite (for hands at least) is good ol' Corn Husker's lotion. Udder Cream is nice too. Our boys get really dry skin which leads to eczema breakouts if we don't keep it moist and we use Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment on them, but I must admit it feels a little on the greasy side, but man does it work wonders! Hope you find something that works for you :)
