My dear friend has gotten herself into a mess. Got into the poison ivy about 3 weeks ago. She is allergic to Benadyl so that didn't help. Her arms and chest look terrible with bumps, red and itchy skin. What can she do? Thanks!

I've never found anything that works better for Poison Ivy than Jewel Weed. It's a good herb & in some states (in the U.S.)it grows where poison ivy grows - often next to it. You can probably find it online if you do not grow or gather herbs. Since long before Europeans came here, Jewel Weed was used in a tea to drink to help the body avoid a break out if exposed to poison ivy - and the tea may be used as a skin rinse for a P.I. rash. In addition to this, we crush the leaves and stem in a gentle rub on a poison ivy rash. It takes away the sting and clears up a rash right before your eyes. Jewel Weed is a very gentle plant with delicate little yellow flowers & is such a very gentle healing plant.
And of course, if you are unfamiliar with herbs and using them, check in with your holistic healthcare specialist, a local herbalist, or family doctor who embraces herbal remedies.

When I was young I used to get it really, really bad. When I was a senior I had to take my final exams in the nurses office at school because my face was such a mess, lol! Even as an adult I would always have to take prednisone for it.
It's just the last few years, it stays under control if I dry it out at the first sign of it. I usually use a bit of rubbing alcohol on a small cloth and just wipe it down a few times a day. Be sure not to wash with an oily soap as this will just spread it around, you want to use some sort of drying agent. If it's really bad, go to the doctor, they'll give you a cortisone prescription.

If the pain is too much, she should go to the doctor. My husband had a severe reaction to poison ivy 7 years ago and it took over 3 months for it to finally clear up. He had enormous blisters from it, they bubbled up a few inches above the skin on his arms and were several inches long. The doctor said it was the worse case he had ever seen. I hope your friend recovers quickly!

Make a paste out of baking soda, as it dries, it draws, Paste out of oatmeal helps also
