Hi all, just a note to share some great simple remedies!
Garlic, good for about anything that ails you! Get a good garlic suppliment, and take it daily. It helps with blood pressure, viral infections, etc!
Honey and Cinnamin, take 1 tbls of honey with at least 1tsp of cinnamin, daily. Mix this in hot water or t, or spread on toast, or just eat it that way. If you have a cold take it more often, but once a day will help to keep you well!
If you or a child has a head cold, slather Vicks vapo rub on the soles of the feet, cover with clean socks, and send to bed. You'll feel so much better in the morning, and sleep hrs. through the night. Works like a champ!
Gargle daily with warm salt water, and if you can, swab the nose with warm salt water (soaked q tip) to kill off any bacteria and viruses that may be trying to get settled!
and learn to not touch you face or rub your eyes. This is hard for me, but I've learned the hard way not to rub my eyes! A cold in the eyes is really not fun, but if you do have itchy watery, blurry eyes, a rinse with a boric acid solution is refreshing and healing! Great for any eye irritation, human or critter!
And finally laugh as often as you can! Laughter is truly the best medicine! Lorna Jean

I don't think BioFreeze would work because it's the vapors that really do the trick with Vicks, not just because you're putting it on your feet. Many people are getting that aspect of this Vicks thing all wrong. The "healing" part of this therapy isn't because you put it on the bottom of your feet - Vicks doesn't work by osmosis!

We used Vicks on the bottoms of our kids' feet when they were still small enough to wear the pajamas with feet. That way, they would get the benefit of the menthol vapors from the Vicks without being overwhelmed by them. We even did this when they were babies and had stuffy noses. This, girls, was back in the mid-1970's!

The other, and most important thing you can do is to strengthen your immune system by taking additional Vitamin D3. For adults (especially adults living in the northern USA where there is little sunshine in winter) up to 5,000-6,000 IU's daily, if not more. I, personally, take cod liver oil daily; that way I don't have to worry about the Vitamin A to Vitamin D ratios.

Also, remember echinacea and elderberry. Also, get plenty of probiotics. Homemade yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut ....

Why not use a neti pot? That cleans out the entire nasal area. The Q-tip idea is a good one if you're in a hurry, but really provides little protection. And be careful about blowing your nose too hard.

Soak toothbrushes in a mixture of 1/2 filtered water and 1/2 H202 whenever you are done brushing, morning and evening. Replace the brush in about 3 months, and replace immediately after being ill.

Spray doorknobs, flush handles on toilets, sink handles, etc., with germicidal essential oils (eo's) to kill germs. Also use eo's to wipe light switches and handrails, too. Soak baby toys in eo's, and wash down highchairs and other baby items, too. Safe and non-toxic.

Vinegar is excellent for sore throats. Mix 1:1 ratio with filtered, warmed water and gargle one mouthful, spit, then swallow the next mouthful, then gargle again, etc. Tastes terrible, stings a little, works like you won't believe. Do this every 2-3 hours and in one day you probably won't need to do it anymore. Seriously.

Olive leaf capsules are excellent to help with colds and flu. It will also help to lower a fever but I'm not a big believer in artificially lowering a fever. Let the fever do its job because it's there for a reason. Fevers are a good thing, even high fevers. Once it gets to 103 or more, if you feel the necessity, try to lower it with ice packs in the axilla, groin, nape of neck and forehead. If it won't lower in a reasonable time, check with your local ER.

**Not meant as medical advice, just suggestions, as you should always check with a doctor if you question your condition, or think its gone beyond your own personal treatment criteria.

We all need to be reminded, life has a habit of wiping the memory clean sometimes, me especially! But always, life is fun, and keeping healthy while others are hurting, that's rewarding above most all else! Hope everyone here is keeping well and motivating with no problems! Lorna Jean

The salt water gargle and swabbing the nose seems to becoming more popular. I like that idea.
I have been exposed to the H1N1 flu yet again, so will be doing this for the next few days, along with my megadoses of vitamin D and taking extra C and Zinc.
Oh, Diane, did you see where if you have just come home from being out in public, you should blow your nose hard, then swab? That was something else I have heard- I guess blow those bad germs out and swab what stays in there, lol?? I'll try it if it helps! ;)

To keep the flu away gargle with warm salt water 2X's a day and also take a Q-tip dipped in salt water and wipe the inside of your nostrils out. This was told to me by a medical doctor. Apparently the warm salt water used 2Xs a day will kill the virus before it grows in to a flu bug.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.
