Does anyone on here have Polycistic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)? I only recently heard of this but after some research am convinced that this may be what I have been dealing with for years. I have many of the symptoms. I have an appointment with my gyno next WEdnesday. I am hoping to get some answers then. Just wondering if any of you have this and what you are doing to deal with it!

Well appointment went really well today. I love my obgyn! I had to switch to a guy three years ago because my insurance changed and the midwife I went to wouldnt accept it. I was really hesitant to switch but feel really blessed! He spent a good 20-30 minutes with me going over things and then did an exam(annual exam). I had lab work done - 6 VIALS OF BLOOD!!!!! - an go back tomorrow for an ultrasound. It will be a few days until the lab results came back but he said my symptoms really told him all he needed to know. He said sometimes what the medical community says is the standard hormone levels for things dont always match symptoms and the way someone feels. He felt confident that I do have PCOS and went ahead and put me on Metformin. I'll let you know what the test results say in a few days but right now I feel really confident that I am on the road to feeling better!

I have it Julie. After reading an article in Woman's Day about 8 years ago I was convinced I had it. I had all the symptoms and was unable to get pregnant. I was going through all kinds of fertility procedures and nothing was working. I took the article to my ob/gyn and he quickly informed me that they had already tested me for it and the results were negative. So like a good patient I let it go and continued with the treatments. Which I might add weren't covered by my insurance. Each AI treatment cost us about $200 out of pocket not to mention the embarrassment at the doctor's office. Month's went by and still I wasn't pregnant. So one day I was fed up with it and got the number of an endocrynologist at Vanderbilt. I went to my first appt. on Oct. 7th, 2002. That doctor sat me down and asked me every question in the book about my health. They did blood work and he confirmed that I was borderline PCOS. I was given a prescription for Metformin and made an appointment to come back in a month. I went back in Nov. and he increased my dosage and ran more blood work. When I got home that day I raised my hands to the air said I give all my worries over to God and what is meant to be will be. In Feb. of 2003 I found out I was pregnant. My daughter was born Oct. 7th, 2003. I cry everytime I think about what I went through and how heartbroke I was every month when once again I wasn't pregnant. That article, doctor, and my daughter was a gift from God. I believe that with all my heart...
Good luck at your appt. and if you truly feel like you have this and they tell you that you don't, well get a second opinion!

It was actually a relief for me to know what it was. It was nice to have a Dr tell me about it instead of telling me its not that bad. I had Dr that made me feel like a cry baby.

Thanks for responding Robin! I will let you know what I find out after I talk to my doctor. I really hope this is it because I cant stand to think about going another year or more not knowing what it wrong. It's horrible to have your body telling you something isnt right but every doctor just thinks your crazy! I really hope I get some answers.

I have had it my whole life. Not everyone has every issue. I am insulin resistant because of it and it was difficult to have a child. I take metformin now to help with the blood sugar issues and that helped me lose weight. It also probably had a role in getting pregnant.

I try to eat well. I know when its that time of the month I will be tired and nauseous. I boost my protein and that helps. Honestly the best thing was getting my blood sugar under control.

I hope your visit goes well. You can pm me if you have more specific questions. I was diagnosed almost 20 years ago after years and years of issues.
