Hi Girls,
I had two root canels about a year ago, not pretty good, anyway, since then I ended up having one tooth pulled after all that trouble of having the procedure. now the second one is infected and I have to have surgery. Maybe I should just have it pulled and get it over with. have any of you had long term success with root canels? Seems so many I have talked to they haven't worked in the long run. Anybody have feed back on this?

i agree, i know that i am pretty close to phobic about dentist and i dont think they are at fault for that, but like i said i have finally found a wonderful dentist couple right here in my little town in the middle of nowhere.
it is such a wonderful feeling to have that choice. the first time i went to them they had to pull a tooth. turns out it was abscessed they think for at least a year and i cant tell you how much better i felt to get that taken care of, my whole body felt better.
i had lived with it because i was phobic, because i had numerous bad experiences with the dentist, and honestly because no one would see me until i could pay outright. when i finally had some money, which was part of my inheritance i went to them only to find out that they would take a payment plan.
now i have a real relationship with my dentist and even though im still phobic, i am going and working with them and they with me to try and correct the years of neglect.
i still dont know yet if we will save my teeth but the dentist seems optomistic, we will see. so if any of you farm girls live in north texa s or southern oklahomam and you need a good dentist i would really recommend these guys.

love

Whoooeee! Talk about *alot* of money...I went to an endodontist..the specialist dentist that does just root canals..he wasn't on my insurance and wanted $580.00 to do the root canal over again...That day, NO payment plans.
Well, I sat in the office, read over the paper work, and said
"No, thanks."
I still haven't decided what I am going to do...but it wasn't that!
That is just soooo much money. And still, no guarantee...I don't know.
I have been looking into mercury free dental work, but I don't know anyone who has had it done, first hand....

FRANNIE,
Thankyou for the kind words, I'am just dandy now and don't plan on having anymore root canals in this lifetime. It cost a lot of money then I lost the teeth anyway. But like I said they were end teeth so I don't really miss them. But I do miss that money, why just think of all the crafts I could buy right here on the MJ site from all you handy girls, now that would be a lot more fun then root canals!! Bell says to say HI.

yes, aunt jenny, i agree it is a big pain in the behind. and no offense to any dentist, it is an admirable profession. i finally have a great dentist and i no longer dread going to the dentist but this is after many bad trips and much money, and no visits because i dont have the money, which i know complicates the whole thing.
finally, as i said i have found a wonderful young couple who are both dentist and their practice is so user friendly and they let you have the dental care first and make payments, it seems they do not want you to put off the work until you can pay for it!
i have lost 2 teeth and may loose more but at least i have these nice folks to go to and we are trying to save my teeth.
i am sorry nancy jo, that you had to loose your teeth but at least your dentist were honest with you and you didnt have to go through the root canal and then loose the teeth anyway..
but i am feeling sorry for you and the pain and discomfort you have been going through....and i just know nancy jo that no matter how many teeth you loose you will always be a woman with a beautiful smile!
that is because every time i read one of your post i can feel your wonderful spirit and your sparkling eyes and great smile.
i hope you get over this dental stuff real soon.

love

I have had to have teeth pulled in the past because of not having insurance or the money to pay for root canals..and have a partial plate on top cuz I have one one tooth on one side and two on the other side gone. I got that done when I HAD insurance...don't have it again now. (dental I mean) My husband has had terrible teeth and had alot of root canals that failed.
Dental stuff is a big pain in the behind, isn't it????? (sorry if anyone here is a dentist or married to one..but it IS a pain!!)

KATTIE,
AFTER TWO YEARS OF GOING BACK AND FOURTH AND INFECTIONS, I GAVE UP AND HAD THEM PULLED, MY DENTIST SAID THEY COULDN'T BE SAVED. LUCKEY FOR ME THEY WERE END TEETH SO I DON'T REALLY MISS THEM. IT SEEMS AFTER TALKING TO OTHER PEOPLE THAT THE SUCCESS RATE ON ROOT CANALS IS NOT VERY GOOD. AS FAR AS YOUR FILLINGS, I THOUGHT THERE WERE LOTS OF NEW WAYS OF DOING THOSE THESE DAYS WITH NO MERCURY, MAYBE LOOK INTO THAT A BIT MORE.

Nancy! What happened with your root canals?

I need help on this...My teeth are terrible! I have had sooo many root canals, some worked. Like you, nancy, some failed...
WELL..I have been doing some reading about "Heathier Dentistry" and I am not sure I should have this yucky, painful, infected tooth root canaled for the second time!!

Have anyone you FarmGirls ever had an implant??

Fillings are so hard for me, I think the mercury in the silver ones is bad for our bodies...BUT all of the white fillings I had put in a few years ago are leaking!

Help!

I had a root canal, no problems so far....

in fact that is kinda of a funny story. I got married b/c I had needed a route canal. I was planning to get married in October of 2004, and was then told I needed a root canal in Dec.2003, which was way to expensive since I didn't have insurance. My husbands (fiance at the time) insurance wouldn't cover me b/c we weren't married. So we went and got married with out telling anyone except our blind witness and his wife...we carried on with what we refer to as our real wedding. few know that we were married twice, as we wanted the day in October to be our wedding day. I always planned to change my name, but didn't the fisrt time due to the secercy, and then the second time I didn't even think about it......so know they tell me it would cost 500 dollars for a lawyer or another wedding...my husband refuses to marry me a third time...lol, and now what would I tell people about changing my anme this late in the game?? I guess we will have something to laugh about when we are old!!

I agree with the other though maybe you should get a second opinion. did the same dentitis do both root canals? Good luck..I know how painful and irritating teeth problems can be.

I've had root canals -- one at least 15 years ago. Really, no problems at all; never had any infected. But you may want to go to a better dentist or maybe an endodontist for a redo. It's may be more expensive to replace a tooth via a bridge than to get a root canal done -- so I'd opt for the redo. Good luck to you -- and practice meditative breathing while the dr. does the work.

Ive had a few. They weren't fun but no lingering problems.

Maybe you need a different dentist.....

My husband had 2 at least 3 years ago and he's never mentioned them again, so I guess they're fine. He goes to the dentist every 6 months, so I'm sure if there had been any further problem he would have said something. Good luck and I'm sorry to hear you're having tooth problems. They can be soooo painful!
