When I was younger I never wore a bra, well not until I was 21 and went into the Air Force and had to when in uniform. I just never liked what they felt like and if I had to it was more like a training bra. No wire, pads just single fabric. But even still I started getting these painful lumps in my brests and was always going to the Dr to have them checked but was always told they were not the ones to worry about. They were so painful I never slept on my stomach. I suffered for the 10 years I was in the service with that pain but never knew what caused them. When I gave birth to my youngest son and got out of the service to be a full time mom I went back to going braless. Those lumps went away but the Dr said it was because they usually go away after childbirth. HUMMMMM I never thought about it having anything to do with the bra.
Today I was cleaning my bathroom and talking to God about the other Melody here who's daughter just found the lump in her breast. One question I had to Him was why is it that some women get it and some don't. My sister is a survivor of 5 years now. I sat on the floor to take a quick break and picked up a Mary Jane mag "The Art of the Egg" and was just flipping through the pages. I stopped on an article of "The Breast Cancer Prevention Project". I sat there and read the whole thing and was blow away! I won't go into details but it explains how bras prevent the natural way the body cleans toxins out of the breast and lymph node's. It states that bras are the reason more women have cancer unlike men and countries that don't wear bra's don't have high numbers of breast cancer.
Now that I look back on it I feel the bra is what caused my lumps and getting rid of it cleared them up. Unlike me my sister has always worn a bra and the worst kind the article said which had wires, pads, push up and very tight to get clevage.
I hope every woman will read the article. I don't know how to tell when this mag was printed because I don't find dates or numbers. If anyone knows how to tell let me know and I'll post it.

I wish my mom was still here. I can still here her telling me over and over "Melody your boobs will hang to your knees if you don't wear a bra!" LOL She would probably say she was glad for once that I did not listen to her, and they are still where they are supposed to be. Now if they will just tell me why I'm healthier for not wearing underware either!! LOL

just had to jump in with ya'all to say that I am a no bra farm girl too! Years ago when I was studying essential oils and the effects on lymph and toxins it mentioned bras as a contributing factor to cancer. It makes sense when we are constricting a place on our bodies full of lymph glands that its going to cause problems. I quit wearing a bra (most of the time) right then. Since then I rarely put the binder on. I almost did my final research paper on this topic but there was not much info at the time!

Also remember there are diet differences. Many of those other countries also don't drink as much milk as we do in the west. A few years ago research showed how young girls were getting so much bigger because of milk and what was in it.

i think it's a very sad notion that the ideal beauty of many western countries are women whose boobs are perky and supported up to their chin by push up bras and cleavage is beautiful.... what if this ideal was a main reason women suffer from breast cancer?! au natural should be in fashion rather than fashion that may kill us in the end...

I am going to ask Carol or Rene' if it is ok to copy the article from Mary Jane's Farm Mag. to this site. It gives the medical reasons for how the body clears toxins out of the breasts that can't be done with a bra on (it says sports bras are even worse) and gives the results of the medical tests done to include stats from the countries where no bras are worn and they don't suffer from breast cancer. The article has a lot of information in it, but I was worried about how much I could copy without infringing on copyrights.

this is a very interesting concept and i wouldn't doubt it one bit! though, i just wanted to add a bit of information regarding the painful, lumpy breast problem.... i have had this problem forever and i believe it's caused from "fybrocystic breasts." it sounds worse than it is, but my mom had it and i believe it's genetic. it causes painful lumpiness in the breasts, is basically non-cancerous tumors/cysts, and ebbs and flows with monthly hormones. i just came off birth control pills and MAN!!! my breasts have hurt SO bad due to going back on a my normal monthly hormone routine rather than being "controlled" by the pill. this condition is nothing to worry about and is very common, but it's something to consider.

it would be interesting to do some research regarding breast cancer rates in countries where women don't wear bras, such as native tribes of africa, asia, and south america. i bet those people don't have many problems, with cancers OR anything else because they don't consume unnatural things. i wonder if unnatural ingredients might also contribute to cancers (that's one of my theories).

anyway, thank you so much melody june for sharing this information and your epiphany!!!

Well, now that I finally have time to visit with all of you ladies again I am on the no bra team. I rarely wear one. I only put one on when I have to go somewhere or someone out of the ordinary is coming over. I don't wear one in the winter even if I go out because I wear a lot of sweatshirs and they are thick enough to cover up most anything. My mom always fussed at me if I didn't want to wear one and she always wore one. She said she needed the support or she hurt. I find it the opposite. I am uncomfortable when I wear one. My gyno. told me that women who wear wires have a ridge that forms under their skin where the wire is and it will swell up an hurt at times. I do believe it could have something to do with breast cancer. I have been looking for a good sports bra and haven't found one that is comfortable. So if anyone has found a good one will you post the brand of it. I also wear the camisole's with the little bra in it if I want some extra coverage. I say let's have FREEDOM! Don't stuff our feet into shoes and put on bra's that resemble torture devices.

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Melody June:
A friend of mine lost two sisters and her mother to breast cancer. I mentioned your post about not wearing bras. Her face got whiter than white. She told me that she never wore a bra. She hated the things. Her sisters and her mother were always teasing her about not wearing one. I do believe you are on to something here.

haha, Merry that's funny. What an image. I wear a bra because it holds everything in one place. Otherwise they flop. The joys of being bigger. My mom takes her bra off the second she hits the door and soemtimes when she's out and about. She'll laugh when i tell her.

I bought some cute tank tops that are like camisoles. I got a few at Costco, but also got a few sets at Walmart. The Wally World ones were 6 dollars for 2 tops. I have been wearing these in place of bras on most days. I feel like I am not falling out of anything and they give me a break. I have pain sometimes with bras. The underwire ones are the worst.

Anytime I'm home the bra comes off and I only wear sports bras now if I have to go out. I hate wearing them. For some reason since I've hit menopause age I can't stand having a bra on. No clue why except that it just feels uncomfortable. I'm so glad that now I have a real GOOD excuse for not wearing one....LOL Thanks for posting this!

I never had to wear a bra until I had kids. Then things changed a little in that department. Lately I have just hated wearing bras because I cannot get the straps to stay up. It is so aggravating. Especially when I am working on something and my hands are dirty. Anyway, if I know there will be no one around I do go braless and LOVE it. But I kinda need to have something when I go out. I like the sports bras alot. I think it makes perfectly good sense, Melody June.

Actually Melody, You probably said that in jest but I remember my Home Ec. teacher talking to us girls about going woithout the underwear at night so we wouldn't get yeast infections, etc. It seems that we need to air out so to speak. lol
I know it sounds strange but that is the same reason they say not to wear tight jeans.
very interesting.

I DID find this article online that says indeed that there is a risk when wearing bra's !!!! Many articles on the risks, but there are also as many articles saying it is a myth. HHHmmm what to believe now??

Ofcourse I don't have the magazine but thank you for mentioning it Melody June!!!
I wear the underwire bra's ALL the time because I am SO small and they give me SOME SHAPE up there;)

Maybe I should stop wearing them and NOT think about my shape but more about my health then. I don't like wearing them, they do hurt sometimes and yes indeed, some lumpiness is what I had sometimes too!!!! Don't wear the push ups anymore because they are doubly uncomfortable (even for small up there me)

Food for thought indeed!!
