Well maybe I exaggerted a little but this time when I colored my hair it turn brassy Blonde/ orange. I naturally have light brown hair and summer sun can turn it blonde. Since I wear a hat out in the sun these days instead of letting the sun do it , I have to artifically paint my hair to get sun-kissed blonde highlights. I usually use a specific brand that works great, I just paint on the highlights and I get blonde! I have had trouble finding the brand of highlights I have gotten for years, so I got another brand. Big Mistake! It was more liquid that the other and the color kind of sunk in leaving my hair more one color instead of streaked and the color is brassy more than blonde.
Does any one know away of getting the brassiness out with some natural product. ( don't want to recolor it with more chemicals)

I did that to myself when I was in college, years ago. I felt like a total toad! I found out one thing's for sure: You can buy an ugly dress or shoes and take them off if you feel stupid, but you can't take off your hair; you're stuck with it! I resolved to never ever do that again.
Since you have your basic color and a bottled color, I'd advise you to go to a skilled colorist for help in turning things back around. I made good on my promise to myself, and haven't touched home coloring products in almost 30 years. It was Clairol Balsam Color that trashed me. I was totally two tone for a long time until it grew out enough to cut. I have a wonderful colorist now.
As far as shampooing it to get rid of some of the brassiness goes, Prell is good for that. But it'll also strip the oils right out, too; it's a highly detergent shampoo. My hair's really dry, and couldn't take that.
Before I started going to the colorist I have now, I went to a friend that does hair. Once I told her I wanted to go more red. I meant a coppery red, like auburnish or something. She thought I meant one of the new fad maroon-y mahogany reds, and BOY did I find out how important it is to be more descriptive! I asked my adult daughter how I looked, and she laughed and said I looked like a bloody Q-tip. It was one of the Redken colors that wash out in a few months, and believe me I hastened the process!
I love the colorist and stylist I have now. When I walk out of the salon, I have a great haircut and color that is exactly what I wanted or better; and I can go anywhere in it. I love them; they're awesome. It's the only place I've ever been where I'd sit in the chair and tell them to do whatever they want, because they're that good at making a person look their best.
I hope you get this resolved; that's hard to live with!

You might want to try a shampoo for Gray hair.The shampoo will be purple.I know Jermack(sp?)and Clairol makes one.The purple will tone down the orange.It might take a few washings but the brassiness will fade.

Actually, I'm sort of in the same situation. Just had my hair done a few weeks ago and I've discovered that in different lights it looks different. It looks a whole lot more orangy-brassy in flourescent lights. So if you are around that kind of lighting it is going to look a lot stronger in color.
However, if you're not happy, with how it looks, you're not happy. So I called my future sister-in-law to see what she would suggest since she went to beauty college for hair. She said there is a product that Wal-Mart sells called Fancy-Full (I think). She said it is a grey bottle in the hair color section and it specifically states that it is for toning down brassiness. I am going to pick my bottle up tonight; it's around $3-$4.
I believe she said it is a leave-in rinse. She just used it the other day and said it worked for her.
I hope this helps and works for you, I'll let you know how mine works in a day or so.

been there .. done that .. ON PURPOSE! i LOVE 'orange' for autumn! i once gathered up a bunch of autumn leaves in oranges, coppers, reds, yellows, golds, yellows, and greens .. and took them to my hairdresser and told her i wanted EVERY color of all these leaves .. she only refused to do 'green'!
i've had red/white/blue for july 4th!

I have a friend who had this happen - she said it was like, street cone orange for a week, then toned down to blonde. Maybe wash your hair 2x a day would speed that up? |
