Posted - Jun 02 2009 : 06:17:00 AM Well, if you followed my thread about my poison ivy, you'll know how terrible a case I got of it. I finally couldn't deal with the lack of sleep and the itching/pain, so off to the ready care I went. They put me on 60mg a day for 6 days.
Yesterday, I was feeling so poorly because my blood sugar had been going up and up. It was the steroids!!! I was at 440 yesterday morning and could barely see. I didn't think I would make it through my work day! I called the doc and she thought I might need insulin to bring it back under control...
This morning I was 143 fasting. I had skipped my 2 doses of steroids yesterday, drank a ton of water, walked quite a bit (a bit of shopping therapy) and tried to stay away from any carbs that didn't come in a lite veggie (cucumber, radish, and tomato) I'm still feeling woozily today but much improved.
I had no idea! I'm hoping my PI is under enough control to not have a resurgance....THAT would be awful...not as bad as this whole high blood sugar thing. Now THAT was scary. I've never had that happen.
Just thought for any diabetics out there....stay away from the prednisone!!! |

Posted - Jun 02 2009 : 07:40:44 AM I'm going to make a concentrated effort this summer to slim down. I have done it before but this kinda scared me. I had no idea I could go belly up so fast. I'm usually more of a rock than this. |

Posted - Jun 02 2009 : 06:54:43 AM Thanks for the info. Ole Ron has diabeties, heart and liver disease. Every medication that he takes does a number on one or another of his diseases. He had to quit taking diabetic med and go to insulin, messed with his liver. The liver med messes with his sugar, his heart med messes with his liver. The same with food. He is on a low fat, low protein, low carb diet. Which means he eats what ever he wants because he can't satisfy all the requirements. Quite a challange. |
