I have had lower back pain since I was in my early 20's. I have finally had to give in and will see a neurosurgeon again. Last time I saw one about 5 yrs ago he said he couldn't do anything for me. I have 3 lower discs that are drying up and now my spinal column is narrowing causing me to have numbness in my foot and sometimes in my fingers. Also pain all the way down my leg which just started in Jan.
My question is has anyone had this problem and what was done to fix it?
Thanks

Michele:
Sorry to hear your back news. I hope you find a solution soon. Keep us posted. I had back problems about ten years ago. I, too, have three disks that are degenerative (don't know if that is the correct word) but now I am much, much better. I, too, saw a chiropractor for years, regular doctors, other doctors, all to no avail. I was avoiding surgery. One day this elderly lady told me to start wearing a brace around my waist. She wore a corset. So, I found a corset and wore that thing for two years. After six months my back was so, so, so, so, much better. Now this lady told me NOT to get a tight corset. She said to get a loose one, just enough for it to support my spine. I chatted with my doctor before I wore the thing. He thought I was nuttier than ever! He surely never helped, so I tried the corset. All I can say is it helped me very much. Any time my back feels tight or I get what I call "the spider-web feeling" going across my lower back, I get the corset out. You can use a flexee (Macy's or Dilliards have them). I have one I wear on vacation. It's a size larger. Good luck. I wish you the best. Back pain to me is the worse.

I hope my back never goes this far. I am currently laid up with another bad bout of spasms that started nearly 2 weeks ago. I have three disks that are in bad shape as well - two nearly ruptured a few years ago.

I hope the neurosurgeon is able to help you. Please keep us posted.

Hi Michele,
I have tried so many things. The chiropractor worked for awhile. I have had cortisol shots, medication, physical therapy, massages you name it, I have had it. I wanted to know if anyone has had disc replacement and how they are doing afterwards. I saw some new proceduces on how they go in your side and move the muscle aside and then replace the bad disc with new ones. Up and back to normal activity in now time.

Jennifer,
My DH had a very similar problem and decided before surgery he would look into alternatives.
He had both acupuncture and hands on Chiropractic and swears it saved him from disc surgery
