Posted - Apr 28 2009 : 5:07:51 PM I saw weighted hula hoops in a magazine. They are supposed to make you lose 2 inches/5 lbs. in a month if you hula for 10 minutes a day. One website that sells them mentions bruising around your middle at first. What is your experience. What weight do you use?

Posted - May 06 2009 : 1:32:43 PM Boy, you learn something new everyday!! Never heard of weighted hopes or hula-hoop work-outs! I know my mama used to hula-hoop when she was a teenager to work her middle. Talk about multi-tasking, she could hula while roller skating!
And, Trish, you smart chickie, you!
Googling this "hoopnotica" right now!

Posted - May 06 2009 : 10:02:31 AM There's a lady at the local bar that makes her own. She sells them for $20 but I don't have time to make my own, so I sucked it up. I tried it out. She has a bigger one and a smaller one. The bigger one is more advanced but I was FUN! TRY one first!!!!

Posted - May 06 2009 : 07:27:47 AM Which place did you order from? Can I ask how much shipping is?
I have the hoopnotica dvd's from the library. 3 week loan. If I wasn't sick I'd go borrow my friends hoop now. I want to try before I buy.
From what I saw in the DVD - it looks like a great workout. Beginners.

Posted - Apr 29 2009 : 3:56:53 PM So I decided on a hoop-the farmgirl way. Instead of purchasing a weighted hoop, I am going to make my own. I have a regular ol' hula hoop that I will drill a hole in, put sand inside, then seal back up with a hot glue plug, then tape over it. This will be $20 to $30 cheaper than any either weighted hoop I can find on either ebay or amazon.

Posted - Apr 29 2009 : 11:38:12 AM DEB- Have you seen hoopnotica, it seems to be a little more grown up. I'm not too interested in their hoops, but they have a different kind of workout. It sort of reminds me of Gaiam workout tapes.

Posted - Apr 29 2009 : 11:00:51 AM Hoop Girl is my new hero! I would wear her outfits every day if I looked like that! She's super disco, I love her. It is interesting to see that she has lighter weight hoops. None are more than a pound and a half.

Posted - Apr 29 2009 : 06:11:46 AM I have never tried a hoop with added weights however I do know that a cheap hoop is no good. I have used a regular good hoop in the past and could tell a big difference in the shape of my waist area but for whatever reason I did not keep it up. (Bored maybe) I would strongly recommend that you try a regular hoop first before spending alot of money on something that may loose your intrest in the long run. You might also check out such sites as amazon/ebay to see how many are posted, that could give you an idea as to how many people have already given up on them. Remember- the best piece of exercise equipment for you is - the one you will use.

Posted - Apr 29 2009 : 04:19:54 AM I've heard that it's easier to hula with a weighted hoop. I have a friend who is a senior citizen(!) who hulas with a weighted hoop! She loves it.
I've been toying with ordering one from Hoop Girl, along with one of her video's. I saw her on cable tv a long time ago (if you google her you'll see what I'm talking about) While I do not like the outfits she wears nor her assistants - it does seem to be a great workout.
How much were to weighted hoops in the magazine?
