Posted - Feb 25 2009 : 12:13:06 PM I took a muscle relaxant late last night. My back was really sore and I could feel a migraine coming on. It must be the long acting formula that they gave me because this morning I can barely stay awake! With any other child I would be terrified, but Nora is so good. She has been watching TV and playing, and waking me up when she needs something. Luckily she is down for a nap herself now- Maybe by the time she wakes up the medicine will be out of my system!

Posted - May 03 2009 : 10:26:50 PM Hi, everyone, I am new on here. I am a massage therapist and herbalist for many years. I,too, have suffered with TMJ and found my best answers with herbs. As far as muscle aches go...did you try calcium and magnesium? And make sure it is not calcium carbonate as that is not absorbed well at all. Without enough calcium muscles spasm. Magnesium is needed for them to relax too.
I do not take mess unless there is no other way to get help. When I had TMJ so bad I did at first and it just knocked me out. Later I found that the herb Pau D Arco took the pain away and did not cause me any side effects. The brand I take is Nature's Sunshine.
Maybe this will benefit someone. LaVonna

Posted - Mar 11 2009 : 9:32:41 PM That's crazy! I have been on Flexeril for my TMJ also and I can't even tell I've taken it, other than my jaw doesn't hurt as badly and I don't grind my teeth at night so much. Most of the time I take 2 pills, but my doctor told me I could take 3, so I do that when it gets really bad. It doesn't make me tired and I can't even tell the next day! I wish it did, because I sleep poorly all the time.

Posted - Mar 09 2009 : 7:49:29 PM I took one last night and headed to bed very very early. I think I slept for 10.5-11 hours. When I woke up I still had about an hour of grogginess but was able to function. I think that is the only way to handle these things. Be able to sleep like a zombie.

Posted - Mar 09 2009 : 7:43:28 PM Yikes! Muscle relaxers knock me out too. In fact, everything does. There's no middle ground... just me passed out.
They give me Soma for my back, and I have to take a quarter of a pill. I have no idea how people actually function on these things!

Posted - Feb 27 2009 : 11:23:47 AM Sherri- what they have you on is the same as the Flexeril. Flexeril is the brand name, cyclobenzeprine is the chemical compound. Yup. It is strong stuff! The Cyclobenzeprine I had to be on in Highschool for my back wasn't as bad. Maybe a lesser dose or they gave me the long lasting stuff but Phew! I am only taking them if I can sleep the whole day!

Posted - Feb 27 2009 : 08:42:02 AM I used to have flexeril but switched over to Skelaxin. However this last time with my back (a couple weeks ago) it was something else...I think the same as Sherri. I didn't care about the sleeping cause I was home and REALLY needed that to keep that pain at bay. My slelaxin is not so bad when I need to be "Mom" or go to work. |

Posted - Feb 27 2009 : 08:07:27 AM I have that problem when I take Nyquil. I have found Tylenol PM works ok for me when I have aches and pains that are unbearable as long as I get 8 hours downtime. I drink a ton of water in the morning and a little caffeine. Otherwise, I try to just take Ibuprofin or something light. (((HUGS)))

Posted - Feb 27 2009 : 07:43:42 AM Alee, If they are not capsule, could you try 1/2 and see if that still helps your back. I have had the same experience and I HATE that feeling of walking underwater....Good luck and let us know |

Posted - Feb 26 2009 : 10:15:37 AM Alee - they prescribed a muscle relaxant for TMJ for me - supposed to help my ear? - let me go see what kind it is - it's Cyclobenzapr - 10 mg. and let me tell you, it knocked me on my tush! I took one before bed and I was still falling asleep, standing at the stove the next afternoon about 3 o'clock. Next night, I cut it in half, and felt awful all the next day, drowsy and yucky, so I just quit taking them. It's a horrible feeling to not be able to wake up when you need to isn't it?

Posted - Feb 26 2009 : 04:06:36 AM Yuck. Muscle relaxants are notorious for hangovers, even for a few days. If you are on long term therapy for a really bad back, you do get a bit used to it and tolerate the drowsiness better, but its not a great feeling. I had my second back surgery in November and have had enough flexeril to put the neighborhood to sleep for a month!

Posted - Feb 25 2009 : 12:38:47 PM Oh Alee that is such a wierd feeling! I can't take any type of muscle relaxant or pain meds because I am hung over for the entire next day. Just chill until you fill normal. I am so glad Nora is so good....
