The thyroid is affected by iodine, that's one of the reasons salt is iodized so that people get enough iodine in their diet to help avoid goiters and such.

Thanks gals I am a little nervous but looking forward to a week off of work
I can stay home but can't sleep with my hubby. I just wonder if the pill kills what is wrong with your thyroid what keeps it from killing something you don't want it to?

I had to have the scan with the radioactive iodine too..but not a treatment. I am glad Dutchy knew what was up with the treatments...I hope you are better soon!

Nothing to be scared about. I had it 10 years ago, and had to have an iodine pill treatment. Had to stay in the hospital for 4 days in isolation due to the radiation. But that is all, I got a pill and just read and slept, lol.
After 4 days I could go home and am now on meds for my thyroid.

Don't know how they do it now, but the treatment with the pill is no biggie, trust me :)

I had two radioactive iodine scans when I was having parathyroid issues. Is it a scan that the doctor wants to do or some kind of treatment? The scans weren't a big deal just long, a couple of hours of being completely immobile.
