I have a general ill feeling all of the time, just feel sick and sluggish. I can think a just a couple of times where i actually remember feeling "good." And although I have visited doctor after doctor, nothing ever "seems" to be medically wrong with me. Does anyone have any suggestions or can anyone help?

This will sound a little off the wall, but after the hysterectomy, did you have to start taking any hormone pills of any kind? I had a super weird reaction to the BC pill that included joint inflammation and pain. The Dr. Thought I had Lupis ot rhumutoid arthritis but all the tests came back negative.

All the symptoms went away when I was pregnant (off the pill) and as soon as I went back on it they came back. So even though my Dr's didn't really believe that the pill was causing the problem, I went off of it and I haven't had those problems since. Had I not gotten pregnant I would have never figured out what was causing it.. so you may want to speak to someone about any hormones you may be taking if that applies to you.. I think that the things you put into yourself can have a huge impact on the way you feel.

you can be oh so smart, or you can be oh so positive. I wasted a lot of time being smart I prefer being positive.

How about pernicious anemia? A friend had it and had zero energy. Her dr. prescribed a beefier from of iron, (I think) and what a difference! This condition is the body's failure to absorb vitamin B12. Other older folks I know had to receive injections, but they were much older and had fought cancer. This condition is characterized by the presence of abnormally red blood cells, gasrtointestinal disturbances and lestions of the spinal cord.

Might not hurt to check this out. I'm not a dr. but can speak from first hand experience :)

Holly and I had the same thought.

I take an adrenal supplement, and it helps bunches.

I hope you find some answers soon.

I absolutely agree with Julia. Depresssion can be debilitating and take on many symptoms. Please don't be afraid to try medication -it's a quality of life issue. I am an RN and have seen patients come back and say the meds have changed their lives. They never considered themselves to ever lead a normal happy life and with the help of meds and an excellent counsler they are out enjoying life again.

Dear Julia...

What a wonderful attitude your husband has. It is so true that your physical health and mental health is connected. A chronic illness is not only hard on you physically, but after time it wears on your spirit. There are times that I feel so lost and alone in the midst of the lupus pain. Family and friends are wonderful, but they can only understand to a certain point. This can lead to depression in itself. Viscious circle!!

Please pass along a rousing cheer from me to your husband for looking at the whole person!!

Shelley :)

Dear Alicia...

Like I told Chasity...I have felt "sick" for so long and I think I had resolved that "this is just how I feel and will feel". Following surgery (a hysterectomy at 30) I did not "bounce back" like I should have. Instead I seemed to feel worse in many ways. When my joints started to be extremely sore (more than what they normally had been) my doctor referred me to a wonderful rhuematologist. Because my stomach starting giving me problems I was also referred to a GI specialist. Fortunately for me the three of them were in contact with one another and between them they realized that the symptoms were connected. This was the key for me and I am so thankful to these doctors for doing this. My wait was, in reality not that long (just over a year), but most of the people that I know with lupus have waited years for a diagnosis...some still do not have a definite diagnosis. It's very sad because that alone wears on a person physically and mentally.

Again, the definite test to ask for is the double stranded ANA. This is not on the "normal" roster when bloodwork is done.

Oh Chasity! I'm so sorry to hear that you are dragging through your days.. what a draining thing, especially when you have a little one sucking the life blood out of you..as only they can do..( I say this lovingly, by the way..kids are incredible but enormously taxing on the body and the mind!) I was particularly struck by your admission of depression and your miscarriage. I am so sorry to hear about that as well. I, too, have experience miscarriage (twice) and it is no easy thing. My husband is a psychiatrist and a brilliantly well balanced one at that. His contention is that the body is not separated from the mind; that is to say that if you have chronic depression your body will show symptoms in a number of ways, likewise if you are dealing with chronic illness, your thoughts and ability to cope with the effects of illness can be compromised as well. Unfortunately we live in a society that doesn't value the importance of mental health and its global effects. Still, I would encourage you to pursue this vein along with all the other excellent suggestions. Keep us posted and know that I am keeping you in my thoughts! Julia Hayes

Dear Chasity (sorry I spelled it wrong before!!)

What you mention about "I have always been like this that I remember" is how I've felt too. I can't really point to a time when I've been completely healthy. I remember doing the same thing in school...tired all day...home and homework and to bed early...and still tired.

The fact that your Aunt has been diagnosed with lupus is, I believe, significant. It does seem to run in families so I think this is worth investigating. As someone with lupus, I also have thyroid problems and fibromyalgia. Lupus seems to be a springboard for medical issues.

Talk with your doctor Chasity. Keep a journal of your symptoms day to day...this could help him/her too.

I have been tested for Thyroid disease numerous times, my mother had to have hers removed so i guess the docs seem to keep thinking this is my problem but tests always come back fine. But as for the fibromyalgia, i have not been tested nor have I for Lupus. Is lupus a genetic disease, my aunt has had it for a few years now and I was wondering if it runs in families.

Robin...I have always been like this that I remember. I remember when I was in school that I would come home, do my homework and go to bed, generally for the remainder of the night. I had numerous tests even back then, parents just ended up thinking i was lazy, since nothing came back...lol. I have the everday southeast missouri allergies(seems the norm around here). Pollen, hayfever, etc.

I do take a iron suppliment, have had iron probs since being very little. But since starting the vitamins, my blood count has been fine.

I ahve to admit that I am not the healthiest eater out there but i try to not go overboard. I eat a lot of fruits and veggies, very little meat and the forbidden sweets are my problem.,,lol,

I dont work anymore. When I was working I contributed my tiredness to that but now that i am a stay at home mom nothing seems to have gotten better. About the only exercise i get is chasing my 2 year old around, which that is a job in its self, whoo.

Depression could be a big possibility, I was taking medication about 3 1/2 years ago. I stopped when I got pregnant with my baby and have not gotten back started . I got really depressed because I miscarried about 4 years ago and had a really hard time with it, so they started me on antidepressants. It seemed to help at the time, but when i got pregnant i didnt want anything to affect the baby so I stopped. I really didnt like depending on a pill to help me live my life so I never started back.

Do you have any mold problems in your home? Do you feel better when you have been away for the day?

Have you been tested for fibromyalgia? I have that, and that is how I feel most of the time too.

Also, have you had your thyroid checked? That one gland can affect every part of your body...making you feel sluggish, tired etc.

Hope this helps...

Hi Chastity...This is just a thought...I'm not a doctor, and I'm not trying to give you medical advice but I was wondering if your doctor has done blood work on you and if he has, find out if he has done something called a double stranded ANA test. I have something called lupus and this is a test for that. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that comprimises the immune system. I'm mentioning this because many of the symptoms that you mention are many of the things that I feel constantly. Like I said...just a thought. Keep us posted, and I sincerely hope that you get feeling better.

Shelley

How long have you felt like this Chasity? Is this recent or in your entire life you remember feeling good just a couple of times?

How about allergies? Have you been tested?

What kinds of foods do you eat?

Vitamins?

What do you do - work, school, ?

Do you exercise?

Could it be depression?
