Posted - Jan 26 2009 : 07:56:02 AM We eat "All Bran" fiber cereal. It is 57% of the daily recommended fiber in it. After that, we eat fruit (with the peel on) fiber one bars or pop-tarts and vegetables high in fiber content. I try to keep a tally in my head to make sure we get our full days worth in. It works just fine for us and we all benefit greatly from it.
I didn't care for the powdered fiber supplements, that's why I adjusted our diets.

Posted - Jan 26 2009 : 06:49:56 AM Every morning I put about 2-3 tablespoons of flax seed on our oatmeal...finish it off with some "Smart Balance", raisins or cranberries and honey and it's yummy. My hubby has a BIG problem with constipation...and this plus "Debra's Daily Doodle" has done wonders for him. Ciao, Kate

Posted - Jan 24 2009 : 1:32:54 PM I think getting it from your food is the best way.
I never take supplements and average around 50gms a day. Can you say BEANS! lol :)
If you get the amount of starch (from healthy starch options, like beans, whole grains, winter squash, etc), fruits and veggies that the American pyramid diet recommend you will get in plenty of fiber. :)

Posted - Jan 22 2009 : 8:47:35 PM I have been addicted to All Bran for breakfast. I mix it with a container of yogurt and it is awesome! I had thought about trying Benefiber, but decided to try and get more fiber from foods. I haven't had many stomach problems lately, so I think it's helping.

Posted - Jan 22 2009 : 3:06:27 PM I have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) so keeping regular to avoid the rotating constipation and diarrhea I often use Metamucil. I will drink the mix or eat the wafers (they're pretty good).
I must clarify that there are 2 kinds of fiber. One is a bulk kind, like when you eat a lot of raw foods and the other is a water soluble kind like when you take a supplement or eat oatmeal, that absorbs water and softens the stool. THAT is the kind that most important if you have irregular habits (both eating and potty).
I'm all for fiber supplements as our diets, even the healthiest are too high in processed things that don't pass well. A supplement is a good, inexpensive way to add that much needed fiber.

I have tried Benefiber. I did like the way it dissolved. The fiber is derived from a wheat product and when I took it it gave me a side effect that was'nt so great when you work with the public if you know what I mean. I liked fibersure much better. |

Posted - Jan 16 2009 : 08:25:43 AM I know that it's really good for the digestive system. The doctor that did my endoscopy in November told me I need to get quite a bit more fiber into my diet and it would help with some issues I was having. I've tried the Splenda with fiber in it and it was good. Also I tried some breakfast bars this week I think they were called 'Fiber One' and they were very tasty. One of the foods with the most natural fiber in it is kidney beans.
