You might have heard about this unusual remedy for the cough. I'm here to tell you, IT WORKS!
I know Christmas is coming because I'm sick: coughing, sneezing, fever, congestion. (I seem to be sick every Christmas.)
Well, my f-i-l told me to put Vicks Vapor Rub on the bottom of my feet before I go to bed, then put socks on. He says that this will relieve the coughing during the night.
So I try it. Guess what? It works. Two nights now I've done that and I haven't coughed during the night. How about that?
(Now if I could find THE cure for congestion and aches and fever and sneezing....)
Give it a try if you develop a cough this winter!

Oh, thank you Jeannie, I am all better now. But, I did "share" it with many, including my daughter. We did the Vicks and sock thing with her and it worked yet again.
Now that I think of it, I've heard of some kind of detox done on the bottom of the feet too. Interesting!

Somewhere on a natural food ad, I can't remember, I saw a medicine especially designed to be used on the bottom of the feet. I am going to try and find it again, but the whole premise was that the bottom of the feet is a place of absorption and healing for the rest of the body. I thought at the time it was really interesting, and now the vicks thing! Since I do not like the smell of it, and it brings back memories of smelly wash cloths pinned to the inside of my pajamas, after mom rubbed it on me, the bottom of the feet seems a much better spot - far away from the nose! :)

Country lawyer, I hope you feel better soon!

That garlic on your feet, or betweeen your toes, will help with chest congestion as well.

I never heard that. I'll have to try that sometime! I did read recently in one of my books (has uses for common things like baking soda, vinegar, kitty litter, & duct tape for uncommon uses,) that the Vicks is supposed to help foot fungus among other things, but didnt say anything about a cough. Makes you wonder what people are doing that they figure something like that out. My DH one day while looking for a cold remedy found where a lady said a lot is absorbed through your feet that you would never think about. To prove her point, she put socks on with garlic in them & wore them to bed. When she woke up in the morning. Her breath smelled like garlic. Glad it worked for you! Thanks for the tip!

My great-grandmother did this for me when I was little, and my mom continued it until I was old enough to take my good friend, Nyquil. The Vicks kicked the cold overnight. I, too, was always sick at Christmas!

Heather, I'm glad it worked on Charlie too!
And Nancy, you are SO right! I hadn't thought about that until you mentioned it, but you are right! It does seem thinner. And not so strong smelling either. I remember when my mom used to rub it on my chest and I could smell it no matter how congested my nose was. STRONG!! So, either IT is not as strong smelling, or my memory is not as strong remembering...

Well thats weird. But I always have vicks, so I will give it a try. I love vicks. I don't think they make it as stong as they used to. The vicks used to be much thicker in the jar then it is now.
