Magdalene hit the nail on the head Sheila. Diet is the most important thing with any digestive issue. Are you following any special regimen? If not, you might want to read the bood "The Makers Diet" by Jordan Rubin. He was diagnosed in his early 20's with Crohn's disease (A VERY nasty digestive disease-- and his parents were Hippie's, so he was raised on a natural Whole food diet) -- It's also VERY hard to diagnose, and so far there is No "medical" cure, though this man DID find a cure! His diet method would probably work for ANY sort of digestive disorder, (and probably many OTHER health issues as well!), and it's all natural.

After working in the medical field for so long, I can honestly tell you that digestive upset is one of the main issues addressed by Doctors (right behind DEPRESSION and ANXIETY-- which in themselves can cause serious digestive disturbances!).

Diverticulitis, Colitis, or "Unspecified Noninfectious Gastroenteritis"-- which is a term they use to make it easier for insurance billing purposes-- are just "general" terms to indicate a problem the Doctor is not 100% certain of. Kind of like "Cancer." There are so MANY different types that it's just easier to call a "positive" diagnosis by the general term--- until they find the SPECIFIC one.

In order to pinpoint EXACTLY what your medical issue is (as far as the Colitis is concerned) you would have to go through EXTENSIVE testing by several specialists (as they seldom agree-- and are rarely right the FIRST go round!). It's not something easily diagnosed in the ER, or even by a family Doctor. I hope you are feeling better now. Take care of yourself! ~~~Hugs~~~ Tracy

Hi, I've been struggling with this for years. Diet is the most important. I stick to bland foods - no spices, nothing acidic, no alcohol or caffeine, anything that is hard to digest.

It is important to find and eliminate triggers: some of mine are tomatoes, most raw vegetables, some raw fruits, beef, pork, doughy carbs like fresh bread and muffins, hard cheeses, ice cream. Specialty foods are definitely off the list: pizza, chinese, greek, etc

I find that eating very small amounts of food throughout the day as opposed to eating 3 large ones does help. I cannot eat a 'proper' meal - it would immediately trigger an attack.

I'm not dairy intolerant, thank goodness, as I love my milk. I'm not gluten-sensitive either, but I find that avoiding wheat products has helped.

A nutritionist would be helpful, perhaps your doctor could recommend one?

Hope some of this helps!

Got it hate it a flare up right now. It will take a couple of months to get it to settle down but it will. Take notice of your triggers that make you the most uncomfortable and avoid and get some good probiotics back in your system.

Good Luck
