My 4YO has an annual bought with bronchiolitis that seems to be triggered by alergies (usually during harvest time). Nebulizer treatments seem to help with the chronic coughing, but the clinic always wants to prescribe steroids, which I refuse to give him. Any ideas what I can do to help with the coughing as well as get him on the road to recovery?

Glad it worked for him. I know when they have bad coughs the children don't sleep and neither does mommy!!
Hope he is all well soon!!

My son is better today. The vicks on the feet trick really seems to work! Plus my son likes me to put it on his feet, so it's an easy treatment. I gave him some chamomile tea last night, and put him to bed with a vaporizer with camphor. Almost no coughing overnight until he climbed into bed with us at 5:30am. Just had a little bit of a dry cough then, so I greased up his feet again and he slept quietly until morning (well, a more reasonable morning time). What wonderful advice, thanks again!

Wow, thanks Misty! The tea is a great tip...but the vicks. I truly believe in vicks as a chest rub--really does seam to help, but the bottom of the feet. I'm going to try it righ now, poor kid's been coughing all night!

Thanks again!

Thank you for these tips! My son also constantly suffers with this from his allergies. The allergies always seem to turn nasty like this. Also, my nephew is going through this right now and has a temp. with it. His cough med does not seem to help. I will mention the vicks treatment. Thanks again.

Our doctor recommended a cup of hot tea (calming like chamomile or their is actually a cough tea you can buy at health food stores) and put one tablespoon of Buckwheat Honey in it. Drink one every several hours. You wouldn't believe how this helps. The other thing that really works is putting a vapor rub (like vicks; my personal favorite is Skinners Salve)on the bottoms of his feet (lots of it). Then put socks on. This REALLY helps control the cough. Yeah kinda weird but these have both really helped. Of course a cool mist humidifier is always recommended by docs as well!
