Has anyone tried this method of making kombucha? If so, how'd it work?

I have been a kombucha drinker for quite a while now and the method of starting with bottled kombucha does work...sometimes. But NOT always! I have had luck growing a fresh scoby from homemade kombucha several times without adding a scoby culture, but when I tried to grow one from Kombucha Gold (a very expensive kombucha and supposedly the best) I could not get a scoby out of it for the life of me.

**Also, a note on kefir...I do not recommend using freeze dried starter packs or bottled kefir to make your own. In order to get real, high quality kefir you need the grains. The other stuff is a poor substitute, in my opinion. I have done the kefir thing for a long time and we actually grow cultures in our fresh goat's milk and have sold them for a couple of years...(My husband just recently accidentally disposed of an entire jar of grains so we are currently "out of the kefir business" while the grains replenish themselves...I forgave him.)**

Kombucha tea is awesome stuff...when you are drinking it for a while and stop, you can really feel the difference! I love it! I have some info on my site if anybody is interested.

Betty Jo- It is recommended that you flavor after the brewing is done as some of the essential oils and such that they use to flavor the tea can actually impeded growth of the Kombucha.

WOW!!!!! What an awesome site. Thanks for sharing. She talks about Kifer but I did not see the recipe. Alee I'm going to try making the Kombucha. I know we have discussed before me dislike for the taste and how homemade is better. Well I'm going to give it a shot with this recipe, looks easy and not bank breaking. Goodness knows I need a healthier routine these days. Can you use flavored black teas?

I'm going to try it since my last Scoby had to be tossed for the move!
