Ok, so I officially boxed up all the nasty, chemical laden stuff in the house and put it in the garage. For one month, I am only using environmentally, health friendly products in the house. Fresh cooked food (trying to only by local, even if it means eating carrots 7 nights a week)....Here is what I have done so far....

1. Hair- baking soda and vinegar, organic hair gel from Aubrey organics.
2. Tom's of Maine deodorant
3. Apricot oil for moisturizer
4. Aubrey sunblock
5. Vinegar/baking soda to clean with
6. Dr. Bronners for misc. things
7. Bought 3 Klean Canteens- recycled all the pop cans/water bottles
8. Bought some re-usuable vegetable bags and 2 totes for groceries
9. Need to buy some cloth napkins/ more washable cleaning rags.
10.Switched to more environmentally friendly diapers (they don't do cloth at daycare...)
12. Vegetarian meals 5x a week
13. Donate all pre-packeged food to local food pantry.
14. Will be changing over to less toxic detergent.

Who wants to join in???

Cheers,
Heather

Hi Heather! I will bump the threads! Check out the "Cleaning Up" section. There have been a lot of conversations about it over the years so I hope that helps! I love ours and I even got Doug trained to only use the tablespoon per load!! (not that he does laundry very often...

Heather- You should consider doing the homemade detergent- it is fantastic! Cheap (about $.04 a load) healthy especially if you use castile soap, and ecofriendly!

Darn, hit post when I wasn't ready....grrrrr..

Things to do...
1. Change over to CFL's.
2. Find a toothpaste, some sort of skin cleanser ( I LOVE Noxzema but can't find something "friendly" so I may be looking for something new...), body wash??? I am using the Dr. Bronner's right now and it is ok but I don't really like it for showers, looking for a natural "hair" enhancer.
3. Get all my cords onto 2 surge protectors I can shut off.
4. Remember to shut down computer at night...this one is my bad habit as I am always on for school, chat, email, bills, etc...
5. Set up recycling center in garage. We just have one large dumpster for all things here. I am really going to separate what I have and find a place to take the stuff.
6. Research and buy a compost bin. I figure, in a year, when we will probably move, I will have a good supply of nice soil.

Cheers,
Heather
