Posted - Sep 19 2005 : 6:58:50 PM I received this message and thought it was important to pass on. Would like to hear what you think on this matter and if it should be acted on.
Dear Lisa, Organic Standards are under attack again...(don't these people ever give up?) Say NO to Dangerous Organic Rider on Senate Appropriations Bill. The Organic Trade Association and food processors are asking Congress to change the Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) which could allow numerous unreviewed synthetic substances in products labeled "organic" and weaken organic dairy standards. We buy organic for a reason. Don't let Congress sneak this through (they may vote as soon as tomorrow, Tuesday!) What to do? Go to the Center for Food Safety's website and fill in your contact information to send a prewritten letter to your Senators (you can edit it if you like-- a good idea.) http://ga3.org/campaign/organic_standards Thanks!! -Amy

Posted - Sep 20 2005 : 09:30:07 AM I sent my messages last night. Since I technically still have three addresses in three different states, I sent the email to each of the state senators. I hope that anyone reading this post will take a few minutes and go to the website and fill out their name and address. (The form email will automatically be sent to your state senators). Seems to me that this is one of the issues that would really undermine what all of us here on the chatroom are trying to accomplish in our own lives.

Posted - Sep 19 2005 : 7:45:51 PM Clare: I think the period at the end of the link messed it up. (I went back to the above post and edited out the period so it should work fine now.) Here it is again. I just logged onto it before I sent this email to you. I received the email from Amy just minutes before I posted it here on the site, so I do believe the Tuesday she is referring to is tomorrow.

Posted - Sep 19 2005 : 7:26:40 PM Hi Lisa, Is this current? I ask because the link is not active, and I did a search for "Organic Rider on Senate Appropriations Bill", and what came up was all dated 2003. Is this a new development? It does not surprise me that they would try to slip something like this through, so I'll contact my Senators and see. Thank you! ![](icons/icon_smile.gif)
