Hey There,

Red Marine Algae works miracles! It comes in a topical creme as well as in caplets. Look for it at a health food store or on the internet. It can be pricey but it works.
Lysine is a really good supplement for him to take.
Also, tell him to avoid any foods with argenine. This promotes outbreaks. A lot of nuts and chocolate, even some caffeine laden drinks have it. Here's the link to the list of foods:

I hope this helps!

When I first feel like I'm getting a cold sore I take extra B50-complex, zinc and vitamin C for about three days AND use a combination of aloe vera gel and vaseline directly on the area. This will usually cut the time I have one in half or better. Sometimes they don't break out at all if I start it soon enough. I usually get them when I'm stressed and/or tired. I tried lysine--took it for years but didn't seem to make any difference. I came up with this combination on my own.

the nuetrogena brand cover up wand(medicated coverup) works well on drying them up real well.

We use Lysine. It's a natural supplement you can buy at the drug store. It comes in an extra strength formula as well. Two tablets (treatments) usually does the trick. It's good for any mouth or nose sores you might get. I use it during allergy season when my poor nose gets so sore. Hope that helps!

Tasha,
Would I be able to find that anywhere? I'd like to get it for my friend. Hers are so horrible and painful.

Jennifer is right. I use tea tree oil and there is also a great blend out by simplers called herp aid that is UNBELIEVABLY WONDERFUL! put it on and then within about 12 hours your cold sore is gone (if it already sprouted.) put it on before it sprouts and it won't sprout! it's the greatest thing ever!

I've heard tea tree oil can ward off a cold sore.

I never get them, luckily. My mom gets them when she is stressed and swears by Campho-Phenique.

My best friend gets horrible ones as well. She takes Lysin (sp?- pronounced Ly-zeen) caplets for hers, that helps clear them up a lot faster. You can find them in the vitamin section of the usual places. She also puts plain old neo-sporin on it for the pain.

When my Dad gets his, he uses something called Herpicin. It comes in a little tube like chapstick at Walgreens. He swears by it.

So try both/all three.
