Got a question. Anyone take an allergy med that doesnt raise their blood pressure.?? I have high blood pressure and cant take any over counter cold meds but corriceden . They dont make just an allergy med either. Benadry puts me straight to sleep and rest cause heart to beat too fast.Claritan i can tolerate but it still raised it too high. I asked the pharmist and he didnt know of any . I may go to dr after first year --but i hate to pay couple hundred bucks and then have him say "oops --they dont make one for people with high blood pressure."

I take a food supplement called Spanish Black Radish. Works better than any medicine I've ever taken. It is from my homeopathic doctor. I would think it could be purchased at a health food store.

yup--the claritan isnt good for ya :( I cant take it at all. I went and got a blood pressure monitor yesterday and i am off to health food store sat to try some differnet things. With the BP monitor i can see exactly what it does to my blood pressure.I will check out the neti pot. thanks so much!!

I take Claritin, but I think I'm allergic because my heart races and I fall asleep and then my heart skips :( I feel drugged and my eyes are all glassy. I used nasalcrom (a spray in your nose) or ocean spray because when your nasal passages are moist things slide right off of them. Make sense?

Lisa,
I second what Tasha says. I use a neti pot as well, and it is wonderful!!!! I have the same problem-high blood pressure. I used to take regular claratin/loratidane (sp?)without the decongestant. (claritin D)
Since using the neti pot, I haven't required taking the loratidane except on the days when I was working at the Ren Fest for the season. Lots of dust and hay there! And that was just a preventative measure. When I got home at night I would use the neti pot after my shower. The neti pot is the best fifteen bucks I have ever spent-health wise.

I even posted a thread about it:

Lisa, my health food store friend uses all of these brands for various purposes: Bioron, BioAllers, B&T, Avogel, NatraBio. She doesn't think any of them would raise your blood pressure, but you should probably check that out. I went into a local store and looked at the package of one homeopathic allergy med and it stated "No side effects." But of course, they might not be considering an interaction with a preexisting condition. Good luck.

Lisa....
I have horrible allergies in the fall and used to take all the prescription meds i could.. Now all i take is stinging nettle. YOu can take it every 2-4 hrs when your flare ups are at their worst. That is all i take now and it's the best antihistamine ever with only good side effects.

Blessings....

Have you tried Flonase? I don't think it raises blood pressure, ask you pharmacist.

I have heard that taking stinging nettle (maybe in tablets or tea) really helps. Do a quick google search on that.

I've also heard that eliminating dairy products eases allergy symptoms...

my husband was able to go off all of his allergy meds after he got off of caffeine. I know that sounds weird, but caffeine can aggravate your allergies.
My husband had been on both flonase and allegra for 7 yrs with allergy problems. He also went on supplements and vitamins, started drinking more water and eating healthier.
No more meds since July.He at first had to do saline washes every day, but that isn't necessary anymore.
I'm saying this becausse sometimes the caffeine can dehydrate you, and make matters worse.Alot of folks don't really think about the efects that caffeine can have on the body.It can raise your blood pressure, affect your allergies, etc.
Good luck!

I sent my friend an email about the homeopathic product. I'll let you know what she says.

As silly as it sounds, you could also try a dust mask while you're working. I react pretty badly to dust, too - sinus pressure that leads to nasty headaches - and I don't like to take meds except as a last resort. A dust mask may not win any fashion contests, but it helps!

A friend who works in a health food store once gave me a sample of a homeopathic allergy remedy. It worked about as well as the loratidine that I normally take, but I did not continue using it regularly (mostly just out of laziness-I've already got the loratidine). I would imagine that homeopathic treatment would not affect blood pressure, but I can't say for sure. Might be worth looking into. If you are interested, I can ask my friend about the product she gave me. She uses only homeopathic remedies on herself and her family.

HI dennise !! I do use the local honey and love it. I have just devopled some job related bad allergies to animals and dust and hay --not being around them isnt an option though :) Mucinex will dry the sinus up but i was hoping someone took an allergy pill to prevent it that doesnt raise blood pressure.

You could try taking local honey everyday to build up your immunity or get the shots.
