Posted - Nov 20 2007 : 8:03:01 PM Hey girls, My husband is trying to quit smoking. Today is the 4th FULL day with no cigs. We got a box of Nicorette gum for 48 dollars!!! He says it helps a lot! We really want to put our ducks in a row to have a happy healthy family, and I quit smoking about the time we got married. He has smoked for about 8 years regularly, but started at 12 or 13. Passing on the cigs has also helped him pass on the beer as well, where he would drink a few like 2 or 3 a nite. He already says he feels better, but at times he's edgey. Prayers please for a successful endeavor, and a desirable outcome! Cristine |

Posted - Nov 23 2007 : 07:44:25 AM He deserves a BIG pat on the back! It is hard, I can attest to that. But, I was like him, I decided I was going to win this one and it worked.I didn't use any gum, but I don't think they had it then. If it helps him, great. It's like Ann said he will realize one day he doesn't really need that either. Congratulations to him for giving it his all. You really do feel a lot better when you quit.

Posted - Nov 22 2007 : 1:00:27 PM Good for him and you, Christine! I quit by using nicorette gum, myself. I got down to one piece per day for several months, realized finally that it was just a psychological crutch at that point, so gave that up. It's been a really long time, now. When he gets to a point that the smell of smoke makes him feel ill, he'll know he's got it licked. Just keep smiling, Sweetie!

Posted - Nov 22 2007 : 07:55:02 AM Hooray! that is a good thing, and I'm proud of him for giving it a go. The holidays are stressful enough, so just be patient with each other =) I'm trying to ease off a life long habit of caffeine and I had no idea how hard it could be...I've been one cranky kitten at times.
Best wishes and luck.
Wishing you joy in small things and peace in your heart

Posted - Nov 21 2007 : 10:33:20 PM Just be careful using the nicotine gum because that stuff can actually make him be just as grumpy when they wean off it. Maybe google it a bit? The stuff that I was reading was a bit scary, but certainly whatever is helping get rid of the cigarettes is good, right?

Posted - Nov 21 2007 : 08:53:27 AM Wow. Reading these has brought tears to my eyes as I hope and pray that this will work out for us. This morning he snapped at me, so I am in need of patience. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. We've bother heard that the tenth day is the hardest, or the fourteenth or whatever, so I think the worst is yet to come, but he says the nicorette helps quite a bit. It's soo hard for him because the guy that works for us smokes, and the day is harder than the nite. No one wants to takea smoke break then...Thank yall for the support Cristine |

Posted - Nov 21 2007 : 05:41:45 AM Hey Christine! I wish him luck (and you, girl, cuz you're going to need the patience of Job!)!!!! My husband quit after 16 years of daily smoking (musician and restaurant work, hard to NOT smoke), and he did it cold turkey (Winter of 2007). I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and nothing happened for a month or so, so I sortof forgot about the withdrawal thing until one day "KAPOW", he was wacko. It was over Easter, and he quite literally couldn't, wouldn't, leave the house. I couldn't do anything with him. Then, as quickly as it came, it was over, and he's moved on nicely from there. It will be 8 months this weekend.
The only thing that has suffered has been my spicy cooking! Now everything I make is "too hot!"
Good vibes coming your way!!!

Posted - Nov 20 2007 : 8:32:43 PM Congrats to your husband for wanting to quit....and for making it 4 days. My husband quit 27 years ago, when I was pregnant with our daughter as the smoke made me sick. He switched to a pipe which he smoked for 6 years and than quit smoking completely. Best thing he ever did. Hugs Kathy |
