A few weeks ago I had one of those lightbulb moments where I feel so goofy for not having thought of something before now. Anyway, I know it's better to eat fresh fruits & veggies and lots of grains, and I love those things. But I kept eating the same old way -- yogurt for breakfast and a sandwich and chips for dinner, and a supper of meat, potato, and a veggie. Lots of milk throughout the day (I love milk). But I've also always known I'm a "grazer" who loves to snack all day long. Well, a couple of weeks ago it hit me -- I could graze a bit and not eat the sandwich and chips, and other quick snacks (usually chips). I'd be eating 6 small meals a day, which is recommended.

So without any big announcement to my family (like I would normally do) or to friends, etc., I did my regular grocery shopping, came home and cleaned and prepared the veggies and fruits, putting them in containers in the fridge (I have one of those spin-around container/lid holders and bought an extra set of containers before we moved, so I used them). Then I figured out when I should eat my 5 mini meals throughout the day and set my cell phone alarm to remind me (like I need a reminder to snack ).

For 2 weeks now, I've been quietly going about my new eating plan. I start with a bit of protein and have about a 1/2 cup or so of fresh fruits or veggies and maybe some yogurt 5 times a day. At supper I eat less meat and potatos than I used to and fill in more veggies. I'm also up to 6 glasses of water a day!

I'm sleeping better, my energy level is more even, etc., etc. and the most wonderful things are that:
1. it's really easy
2. dd, who is a bit overweight, has started eating what I have out, just because it's handy, and she commented that she's lost a few pounds and was surprised. She didn't even notice the change because I controlled my big mouth and didn't make a huge production over it

Thanks for letting me share. I've been dying to tell someone how excited I am, but am still trying to keep it simple and low-key here.

Patti-

You hit the nail on the head! I did that for a summer and ended up losing 20lbs! It was amazing! I thought the first week was the hardest because I was always hungry inbetween my mini meals, but after the first week my stomach has shrunk and it was great! Keep up the good work!

Janice, breakfast is a hard one for me because I've never liked to eat first thing in the morning. One thing I really like is a banana with a light layer of peanut butter spread around it. Another thing I tried last week was peanut butter on toast -- that's really good, too.

For the most part, I get my protein from peanut butter, nuts (no salt or other additives), turkey, and protein powder added to smoothies, which I love. I have the Magic Bullet thing, and I put yogurt, fresh or frozen fruit, a glob of peanut butter, soy milk, flax seed, push down for 30 seconds and have a great smoothie.

congratulations to you and your daughter. some times it is best to help our children's diets with out their knowing it. My daughter just realized what a healthy diet was two days ago and decided to inform me that she was smart as she was already eating that way. I patted her on the back for her good work but I didn't tell her it was moms work as she is only 8 and hasn't a clue how to make anything other than a pbj and cereal. She was telling me about the food groups she eats at dinner and other meals the ones I prepare I got a good kick out of it too. Great job it is always healthier to eat little amounts through out the day then the body doesn't think it will starve and put on fat it will want to lose weight thus making it easier to stay skinny this way or loose weight.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

Congratulations, Patti. It all sounds so sane and sensible. And easy! I have a problem with my energy level, usually in the afternoon. Do you have eggs for breakfast? What type of protein do you eat in the morning?
