Oh, boy, allergies can become all-consuming! Each year will be a little different because of the change of seasons. When I was tested I found that I am very allergic to tree pollen and mold spores. So, in the spring when the trees start to explode watch out! And raking leaves in the fall, just miserable. Hey, another thought, learned this from DH. When you are running your car AC have it on MAX. When it is on max it is not cooling the outside air (full of pollen) it is re-circulating inside air. I was sceptical but it seems to make a difference.
Cold tea bags on your puffy eyes is lovely. Tea contains tannin(?) which does something, not sure what but it will reduce the puffiness. (This from the ex-Brit! Go figure!)

I have always struggled with allergies to a certain extent and had started with shots at Fort Irwin but now I'm sure I will have to be retested here at Fort Riley. One thing I do know is that right now I'm hating spring here! I don't remember it being this bad when we lived here before but my eyes are so itchy and red! Not so sneezy but some, dd is miserable as well. We are still looking for somewhere to live as well and trying to stay at a generous friend's house but she has two cats so I'm not sure we will be able to stay. Sorry for hijacking the thread but I'm right there with ya!

Any ideas? Thanks!

Holly

I have had to resort to an allergist also. I went ahead with the shots, they don't start working for awhile. The shots are not as bad as I thought they would be-- I hate shots!-- my dad and my husband give them to me once a week. I have a few prescriptions to take and while I still feel yucky, I feel better than I usually do this time of year. He told me by about June 15th the grass pollens will be a little better. I also had been having terrible stomach aches for about a year and I found out I had some food allergies and I try to manage not eating those things and I haven't had hardly any tummy troubles. Back to things that help sinus. My uncle swears boiling water with vinegar in it helps but I cannot handle that. For my kids I use claritin , delsym cough syrup, and Afrin 12 hour nasal spray. And Amen on the clean hair thing, the pollen will stick to it, not to mention the steam from a nice hot shower will help. I also miss having my windows open on a nice day but no more of that for me . Everyone I talk to says their allergies are worse this year than ever, thats so odd.

Heather, I sympathize! been there, done that! After almost 20 years of suffering I finally went to an alergist to see what I was really alergic to. It was very helpful and even though I have chosen not to give myself an alergy shot once a week for 3 years(!) I do some things differently. Keep your hair off your face, in a pony-tail or braid. That way it is not flying around catching all the 'stuff' in the air. I know we all love to hang our clothes etc outside to dry, but guess what comes in the house with the dry laundry? Shower before bed and put a fresh pillow case on every night. That way you are not sleeping with your face in the pollen from your hair on your pillow case. Avoid being out-side on windy days. All of this has helped me, I hope it helps you too!

Yep!! This is the worse I have ever had..EVER!! I can't take Sudafed...it makes me throw up for some strange reason. I want this clear, constant running liquid to stop. So, I will just take everything I can and I find drinking ICE water has helped. Don't know why???

Thanks.

Cheers,

Heather

A hot pack to the sinus area can help the junk drain. Other than that I don't know what can actually help you get over your allergies other than maybe getting a prescription?

Hey Heather! I've been experiencing much the same, to the point where I'm getting congested when I put my head down on the pillow to sleep at night, and am all stuffed up during the day. (By the way, at 38 y.o., this is the first spring in my life I've ever experienced allergies. Seriously.) As much as I tried to avoid it, I've found that taking a couple of doses of regular Sudafed throughout the day and before bed seems to be helping. If anyone else has any other ideas. I'd be thrilled to hear them as well!
