I havn't had the problem before..but now I do...my doctor just put me on daily meds.. (Cozaar) and boy...
I am having a problem with feeling spacey and just not right on it. The pharmacist told me that it is normal to be a little dizzy at first when you start this one and not to worry...but I hate that feeling. I just want to lay down and close my eyes. And I am having trouble thinking clearly all the time...feeling blonde is how my husband described it. (which got him a dirty look from my blonde daughter!!) Have any of you had this problem? What has helped? This is only my second day on the medication and I have to go to the doc for a follow up visit on Tuesday morning...

Okay...I'm sure you're tired of hearing me say this...but chiropractic can help. My husband was just telling me today that chiropractic has been proven to help lower high blood pressure. They were discussing a study in class today. This study did not show phenomenal decreases, but it did show a steady decrease that held without medication. Chiropractic is not how to align bones, but its how to make the nervous system work at YOUR 100%. The nervous system controls everything in your body, so by correcting nervous system problems, you can aleviate some pain and strain. Also, the cost of an adjustment is much less when compared to medications. Hope this helps you, and when looking for a chiropractor, look for one who does wellness care.

JENNY, I just got an email from Candismom that you were having health issues..I also suffer from HBP.. I have been on HBP meds for 20 years..and still have moments of dizzy feelings.. I have a package for you, but think I'll change it around abit after your recent health scares, I think you need a "bigger Pick me Upper".. Whewwww! glad I held that package a day longer..

Aunt Jenny-

Hugs! I hope you are feeling better soon. Hopefully your body will recover and the HBP will no longer be an issue. I am so sorry to hear about the early emphysema! Is your doctor putting you into therapy to help slow the disorder? I will be keeping you in my prayers and hoping that you feel better soon!

Alee

PS: Here is a link to some information about Emphysema and some herbs that might help a bit. I am not sure how true it is, but perhaps worth a read:

Aunt Jenny,

I too was dizzy when I first began medicine for HBP. My doctor suggested I take it at night just before going to bed, which is what I do. The few times now that I have forgotten before bed and take it in the morning instead I am not dizzy, so your body will adjust to it.

I was told I have early emphysema and it is pretty scary to me. I would love any advice at all. I don't smoke..never have..weird that I ended up with this. I have had issues with chest colds, pneumonia and like that for years and really thought I had asthma or something. I have calmed down a little (hopefully just worrying hasn't made the HBP thing worse..haha) and I am trying to be positive and find out all I can about emphysema.Still dosn't seem real. I don't feel sick right now..and thats a plus, so I am just staying busy as I can (not hard around here) and I sure thank you all for being so sweet!

jenny,
sorry to hear there is more health news, but so glad you are being treated for all these health symptoms.
it can be very frustrating, i know to have health problems and to navigate the world of health care, but sometimes it is just a sign that we need to slow down our pace and rethink our lifestyle.
i am sure with all you do that there is room for a little slowing down. i dont know how you do it all, quite frankly, you have always amazed me.
anywhay, i am glad you have so many faithful farmgirl friends here who i know can give you great advice, i'm afraid i have been retired from healthcare for too long to know much about it anymore.
just know that we are all here to help in whatever way we can and that i am thinking of you for a speedy rehab, and being back to your aunt jenny self, or maybe even a new improved(is that possible?0 version of the aunt jenny we all know and love. your in my thoughts and prayers through this illness.

love

Jenny,
Just know that you are in everyone's heart here at MJ's. I am really concerned about that worse health news that you received. With the HTN and now worse news....as a nurse, I can only imagine what is wrong......just know that there are so many treatments for many illnesses now that weren't available even 5 years ago. You are doing the right thing by educating yourself.....education is the key to making choices that will work for you and your family.

If you need any help or interpretation of the workings of the healthcare system.....there are a few farmgirls here who are nurses and I know would be glad to help! Myself included. Beehavenmaven (Bev) is a nurse too.

Lots of love and hugs and blessings and healing light your way Dear Aunt Jenny!!

Aunt Jenny, I am so sorry to hear about the HBP, and so many women battle that, don't we? But it's really positive news that with the meds it had dropped quite a bit!! That was smart of you to take it right before bedtime to minimize your discomfort. We are all rooting for the doctor to find the best med to give the best result, and sending up prayers for better health soon. If I were closer, I'd come over to help out, maybe even milk Mona (poor cow)! Farmgirl hugs, Nance

The dizziness is much better..solved partly by taking the medicine in the evening instead of in the morning when I had to sort of hit the ground running. I went back to the doc on Tuesday and it was down a little (from 175 over 106 at the highest to 144 over 100 tuesday)..not enough and she wanted to double it. I talked her into waiting another two weeks. I did get some way worse health news and I think it is probably a big factor in what is causing the high blood pressure. More about THAT later..I am still sort of dealing with it.
Thanks so much for caring..you gals are great.

Hey Farm Girls!!

Jenny I have taken bp medicine since the late 90's as a beta blocker for migraine headaches. I have never had any side effects.
However, I have had 4 migraines this week due to a major stressor in my life right now and am going to see my doc about this tomorrow.

Call your doc; there are too many alternatives out there for you to be feeling badly.

Will look forward to hearing that you are feeling better.

At my last yearly blood work, my BP was a little high too, and of course the doctor wanted to put me on meds right then, but I told him to give me a month to lower it naturally first. So I did it, I don't use salt at all but it's in everything so I watched that, and drank more water, and did alot of deep breathing, when I went back it was normal. It goes up now and then from stress or something I ate but all too many times it's just normal aging and diet. I don't like meds at all, if I can do it naturally, I will. I know this isn't for everyone and I'm not saying don't take the meds. just give your body a chance. Many times it's high just from waiting in the doctors office and being nervous. Jenny, take care of it and stay on top of it! Hope your feeling better soon.

aunt jenny,
so glad to see your post, but sorry you arent feeling well with the med adjustment. i have wondered about you cause it didnt seem you were posting as much, now i know why.
i dont have any info on this medicine but it seems we have some very knowledgeable farmgirls, when it comes to meds i am very blonde.
unfortunately, i take 7 per day, as i had a serious heart attack about 8 years ago. it was somehow related to graves disease which was not diagnosed in time.
the only med i have trouble with is the statin drugs which treat high cholesterol. i took them for 3 years before they took me off of them, but i have muscle weakness and balance problems still from those drugs.
i take a small dose of toprol for high blood pressure and it works fine.
i hope you get to feeling your aunt jenny self again very soon. i know it is probably very alien for you to lounge around on the couch.
i never even heard you talk about sitting down before this, and in my fantasy world, i have never pictured you standing still>i have even wondered if you milk mona in your sleep, or maybe craft.
anywho, girl i hope you will be up and about and feeling great very soon.

love

I too struggle with super high blood pressure - I was having headaches every morning, and was curious as to what was causing them. Nothing would shake them. So I went to the doc and my bp on that first visit was 233/123. The nurse about fainted. He put me on Lotril 5/10 and when I went back in 2 weeks, it hadn't helped as much as he wanted. He doubled it to 10/20, but now I am having wierd sort of nauseous, dizzy feelings. I haven't been back yet for a recheck, but when I do I will tell him. I don't think it's helped the BP much though as I take it everyday at home and little change. Gotta watch that bp medication - it can cause some weird side effects.
Aunt George Posted - May 12 2007 : 02:45:51 AM
jenny,
They even call this cough you are experiencing ACE-Inhibitor cough. It is a viable reason to discontinue the use of Cozaar....so please let your MD know this ASAP. Don't discontinue anything without the guidance of your MD though. I wouldn't dream of telling you what to do with your medication. It is not a life threatening side effect. The memory impairment and the severe fatigue are also adverse reactions to Cozaar, so it sounds like this is not the medication for you. There are so many others you can be trialed on. I would probably get in on Monday if at all possible rather than wait until Tuesday. And it is true so many of the Anti-hypertensive medications have a period of getting used to for your body. So if you still feel bad over the weekend, get to your doctor, it is not your imagining!!

I agree...take care of yourself. Oh, and if you start experiencing dizziness when getting up from a lying down position, be very careful. That could be your bp going too low. Sit back down and let your body adjust until you are no longer dizzy, then try standing up again.

Take care,
Georgann

Jenny- Definitely ask your doctor about another medication. Medicine is supposed to make you feel better, not worse! I do not like that spacey feeling either. It's like you are suspended between reality and fog. I take Toprol for HBP and it has never bothered me. (I actually take the generic now-metaprolol) I am hoping that between being in Weight Watchers and walking and (sniff) cutting back on salt and salty foods I will be able to come off of it in a year or so.
Take care of yourself!

Jenny -- when I was first diagnosed with high blook pressure I was on cozaar. It made me feel the same way and also made me have this ticklish cough all the time. My doctor changed me to atacand and I've had no problems. I've been on that one for 5 years now. There are so many bp medications out there. If this one is making you feel bad then call your doctor and ask to be put on a different one.

Oh, Jenny - yuck. I'm so glad that you and the doc were able to catch it soon, however! I don't know about those particular meds, but I DO know that it takes a while to get used to some of them. And don't worry about "acting blonde," I do it every day, and I still seem to get by okay!!!!!

I can't wait to see you soon - you AND Kate!

XOXO, Libbie
