I just finished my first willow bench! Ta Da! I'm getting used to the tools and my DH has given me lots of tips. Here is a picture of my first bench. Slightly hobbit-sized. Will tackle a full sized one next!

Beautiful. Definitely a good item for selling if you ever do that! So rustic and pretty.

Susan, or Fred and Red. Yes I was looking at your blog. Very interesting and just love your little house, to cute! And all your flowers. Fred is one handy man. All your woodworkings are so nice. Looks like a really nice place to live.

Thanks everyone. Bench number 2 is nearly done. After that I think I'll try a willow chair. I used a great book by a woman named Dawn King, published in 06, "Rustic Garden Projects." Great instructions, drawings and photos, tips on using the tools. Also, another book by Abby Ruoff, "Making Twig Garden Furniture" I loved finding these books by women, it gave me confidence that I could do this. I've made lots of small projects to date; baskets, planters, waste baskets, lamp shades and wreath forms from the willow. It's "woman sized" woodworking and allows for lots of artistic interpretation. Here are a couple of the smaller projects. Will post the new bench when it's done.

Oh Susan that is so beautiful - something I want to try too.

You did a great job especially for your first one.

Good job for your first bench. I love it. I love making things by hand. Can't wait to see what else you make. Thanks for sharing.

I am trying to be the person my dogs think I am.

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I love it!! It would be perfect to display dolls or teddy bears. I am dying to try basket weaving too. Is there a book that you used to teach yourself?
