Posted - Dec 08 2009 : 11:35:22 PM As many of you know, I have been a truck inspector for the Indiana State Police for several years. As of January 1, I will no longer have a job. 42 of us have been cut with no chance for return. They offered no reason except that they needed to trim $13 million from the budget. People were not given the chance to retire who had more than 20 years on and yet some with only 2 years got to keep their jobs. I was in the middle with about 9 years total with the department. I am just sick over this as my husband has also been without work since July. I haven't been sleeping, hence this posting at 230 in the morning. I truly fear we may lose our home. I have been on all the job sites putting in resumes and applications from grocery stores to factories. We have decided to try to auction off everything that we honestly can live without. I am even trying to find a home for my horse. We are keeping the chickens as they are a source of food. Anyway, please just pray for us and hope one of finds something soon. Thank you.

Posted - Jun 17 2010 : 8:13:59 PM This seems devastating, but this happened to me years ago. I cried for 3 weeks, then found the best job I have EVER had that lasted 4 and half years. This happened to my daughter also who had a wonderful job making good money(she's a dietician). She got a new administrator who didn't like her and she ended up resigning. It took about 4 months, but then she found a job making almost double the money she had been making and one year she was i the top 10% in the country and won atrip to Hawaii, a flat screen tv and other wonderful things and this is the best job she's ever had. So hang in there, what seems bad usually isn't. Keep your courage up! |

Posted - Jun 07 2010 : 06:18:47 AM Lora, I never cease to be amazed at the resilience of people. I am so sorry this happened. So many people are struggling. That knowledge doesn't help per se but there's comfort to be found knowing you are not alone. Honey, eggs, flea market, garden....Amazing how you are making due. I shall be thinking of you and your situation. I am feeling inspired by your ingenuity. Blessings upon you and your family. ~julia

Posted - May 31 2010 : 6:57:39 PM Hi,
There are times when our problems can be nearly overwhelming. At times like this, we need to remind ourselves that God works in mysterious ways. Sometimes, a horrible experience is simply God's way of moving us to a better place.
This prayer by Rev. Dr. Reinhold Nieburh may help you.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, And the wisdom to know the difference -- Living one day at a time Enjoying one moment at a time Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, Not as I would have it, trusting that He will make all things right If I surrender to His will; That I maybe reasonably happy in this life And supremely happy with Him forever.
Hugs,
Ilene, farmgirl 1547 |

Posted - May 20 2010 : 05:43:43 AM Well I am back. After taking a long break to work things out, I finally have a few minutes to update everyone. First of all - I want to thank everyone for their prayers and good thoughts. I believe you all helped me thru this mess. Next - I hope everyone else who is facing similar situations remembers that we are all thinking of you and hoping things work out for you. Ok - I still have not found outside work, so I am currently being a stay at home mom. I am getting unemployment so that also helps. Lance found a job at a new flea market/vender mall in a nearby town. It opened in March and he has already been promoted to Assistant Manager. The pay isn't much over minimum, but it's a paycheck. We also have a booth so we get that money too. Since he is working full time, I take Lliam back and forth to Carmel to a school for special needs children. I drive about 220 miles a day, but the school has to reimburse us for the miles since they can't provide transportation. I sold my horse to a family with triplets. He's being ridden almost daily now. I read a great book that just seemed to appear to me one day in the bookstore when I was looking for inspiration. It's called "Possum Living" I don't have it right here in front of me, but I think the author is Dolly Freed. Awesome book.
We are going to put a HUGE garden this year. Biggest one ever. We have 5 horse tank plots. We filled them with empty cans about half way then put soil and compost in. I am just waiting for the rain to stop long enough to dry the ground so we can plant. I fired up a web site callled www.countryfriedacresfarmmarket.com. It's not complete yet, but I am working on it.
The bee's are taking off. We are selling honey and honey products (not listed on the site yet) We are also selling eggs and going in halves on 2 calves. We will raise them and a couple friends will split the cost. I am hoping that after school lets out, I will have a couple hours per day to sew. I have so many ideas and so little time. I seem to be busier now than when I had a "job". lol.
Dawn's Spring Fling was held mother's day weekend and althoug it was cold and rainy - we had fun. We me a lot of great people, traded plants and sold some honey.
I hope to be able to get on here more frequently. I have missed chatting with everyone.
Love and hugs,
Lora #358

Posted - Feb 09 2010 : 09:28:09 AM PrarieHawk, My prayers are coming your way! The way things are today, it's really hard to keep from getting stressed. My hubby and I are having alot of changes taking place right now, and all we can do is pray that the Lord leads us where he wants us to be. I feel that he must have something better ahead for us. Sometimes its hard, but knowing he's there is what will get you there. Please let us know how things are going. When it comes to changing our health needs it does get scary. I'll pray that your job will be secure. Blessings, Brenda |

Posted - Feb 08 2010 : 9:45:21 PM I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but a decision was made in Illinois recently that may lead ultimately to the closing of many hospitals. I am praying that it doesn't have too big an impact on the hospital where I work. I really depend--for my very survival--on the medication I take and if I don't have insurance, I don't know where I'd turn. I am praying for all who are jobless in this economy and especially those who face medical needs without insurance. I feel like, now that I'm halfway across the tightrope, they decide to pull the net out from under me. Not a very pleasant place to be. I believe in God, and that may be all that gets me through these difficult times. If hospitals are forced to shut down...where are people going to go? Out of state? It's scary to think about. cindy

Posted - Feb 05 2010 : 5:17:32 PM Update! Went to the doctor for my back and after two mri's in two years there has been such a change that he's sending me to the surgeon. Have tried to avoid this, but guess I'm I have no choice now. The spinal cord is severly narrowing from the disc. Have to get ok from insurance before I know when I'll see the surgeon. So now it's just sit and wait. |

Posted - Feb 02 2010 : 5:50:37 PM Thank you Diane! I have thought about babysitting. I taught pre-school for several years. I've thought about advertising for mending and any other sort of help they may need. What I can't do, Tom should be able to. Great Idea, we will sure give it a try.

Posted - Feb 02 2010 : 4:03:58 PM Hey Brenda and Lora - I don't know if this will help or not - but I have a friend who is in the same boat as the two of you. Her husband is doing a handyman sort of thing - he has posted in grocery stores, churches and real estate offices and he goes in and fixes things for them. He is bonded of course - but it has opened up some doors for him. She is unable to work as well and she has taken in mending, ironing and cooking for folks. It has gotten them through for awhile now. |
