After recently finishing the dining room walls there was a definite need to warm it all up with the right window treatment. Being non-traditional I knew to keep the farmgirl look and feel I wanted I would have to dream up the one that would work.

I am a comitted recycler of cloth- all cloth!!! It is the hardest thing in the world to toss out anything made of cloth that can be repurposed and used again. One of my favorite things to recycle is wool. Living in Louisiana, we don't wear much wool, if any, so about the only way to enjoy it is in decor of some sort.I so enjoy finding old sweaters, coats and other articles made of wool and felting it in preparation for it's new life.

Most of the color you see has been rescued from a blanket or sweater. I felted all the wool I reclaimed before stashing it . Over the years I have amassed quite an array of colors. That stash really came in handy on this project.
It was such a simple project- simple sewing & embroidery skills and a pair of scissors is about all it took; and a good stash of old sweaters, blankets and coats.

This window treatment came to mind at night as I was dreaming of working on a candle mat- all I had to do was enlarge the idea and WOW!
I still have a bit of trim work to do at the top edge to level them and cover the raw edge.
I knew I had stumbled onto the right look AND feel!
What do you think?

Blessings,
Autumn

Life should NOT be a jounrey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming. "WOOHOO, what a ride!"

Nope- I just used upholstery tacks and tacked them right onto the wwoden frame. I really didnt want a rod to distract from them. Besides- then I would have to had sewn a rod pocket I'm just a little lazy when it comes to curtains!

Those are so beautiful. I love wool, too. And we don't see much of it Arizona either.

Light and airy would be nice, but it so nice to have such pretty things too. I would imagine the pretty darks would keep it nice and cool in there. Plus, quilts are always in season!

Thanks so much! I love them just as much now-even after looking at them for several months.
I had thought to change them in the spring and summer but I'm not so sure now.
What do you think? Should I change to a light airy look for spring and summer???

Those curtains are lovely, and aren't you smart to come up with them. Your whole kitchen looks wonderful....

The curtains are great Autumn <my oldest daughter's name is Autumn :^)>. I feel the same about fabric as you do, it really is a shame to waste it. I always do my own curtains/drapes too, the boughten ones are just too expensive! It's so fun to be creative and recycle!

To felt my wool ,I wash it on HOT and rinse in cold. Then toss it into the dryer. Then it's ready to stitch with no raveling worries and is tons of fun to work with.

By the way- nice to meet you Cindy!

Autumn, how beautiful!! Your dining room is wonderful and your window treatments are fabulous. Can you tell me what you mean by "felting" the wool before you store it? I think I have an idea but not sure.

Karen, way to go on the weight loss. Keep up the good work!!
I wish I had started when I only had 18lbs to lose. Now it's a daunting task I have been putting off.

They're absolutely beautiful, and they "fit" so well in the room. That's one of the things I struggle with -- making the curtains blend in with the style of my rooms. You did a wonderful job on these. Want to come make some curtains for me?

O K - here's the finished room!
I am so pleased with how these turned out.
I plan to change the look for spring and summer- to keep it light and airy.
I'll probably use a light cotton gauze type fabric for spring and summer.
