I recently got an email from a friend who shared with me a Quote that Maria Shriver (First Lady of CA) was quoted as saying and if it isn’t a farmgirl saying nothing is! It simply states, "YOU ARE THE LEADER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR". Wow, right! When you just sit with that.... how powerful. Often we look around and ask, "Why doesn't someone do something" when maybe the question is "why don’t I do something".

Ms Shriver is honoring women in CA with what they call a MINERVA award. Minerva is the Roman name for the Greek goddess Athena. Goddess of warriors, poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, crafts and music.

Now really, is there a category in there that DOESN'T just say FARMGIRL?

So I thought this would be a great place to post our own Minerva Awards. I know that each of us have a gal that we think oozes these qualities. SO here is mine~

DAWN ~ deeredawn
A few weeks ago, she and I were having a discussion on the forum over one of my posts on endangered food, and like all "girlfriends" have the unspoken authority to do, I volunteered her to head up the Maven Movement. I know this has stretched her, challenged her, and even shown her.... the talents that we all knew she possessed. She has been a warrior, her words of encouragement has been poetry, her wisdom has been like a suave, her bracelets so crafty, and her business woman qualities are commerce, her sense of humor is like music to our ears... SO, she is the perfect candidate for my Minerva award.

Jessie I SO agree with you!
I have started to become myself more and more this past year.
STill have the depression etc but working real hard on that.
And I am more myself in a lot of ways: not having to think about what would ... think about this, can I do this because ... won't like me wearing this etc etc .

NO it is ME, Myself and I that comes first, to me. I am growing and getting stronger, with the help of God, real good friends and this BB!!

Thank you ALL FarmGirlfriends for being here when I need a shoulder to cry on, a prayer or someone to share ideas with or just for a talk :) :)

I give you ALL the Minerva Award.

Hugs from Marian/Dutchy, a farmgirl from the Netherlands :)

One of the greatest things I am learning from the girls here at the farm, is that there is always something new to learn! :) We are all teachers in our own special way. We encourage, cry, share, and have a good ole' time just being the women that we are. What a great way to find the leaders in ourselves by follower the leading of others!
hugs!

I second!! And thank you for the timely words of wisdom Rene - here I was just sort of griping about how people get so worked up for the holidays. I really try to look for the best in people - thanks for the reminder and the suggestions for positive language.

I agree Rene'. If we take the idea that words are powerful and expand on that with, thoughts are behind the words, it makes us concious of the fact, that thoughts, are so powerful that they actually are what determines what goes on in every indivdual's world and all our collective thoughts(words & actions) determines what is going on in our collective world. I have found in my own life if I am conciously grateful for what is in my life, good and bad, that I am overall more grateful and content, and happy.
I really like your idea about being careful of other's dreams. That is very insightful and I'm am going to emulate you and try to be more concious of other's dreams.

I submit you, Rene', for the MINERVA AWARD.

YES Rene I have found myself in the last year use more positive words and FEEL them. It sure touches others too. I have been making others laugh and smile that I come across. My boss is great example of it. It's interesting. He is gay and often STILL judged badly. He is always positive and gracious to people, his partner too. He really sets the positive tone for me. I also realized I am in control ONLY with myself. I can't control others (sounds silly typing it) but I can control how I react and feel. I choose the positive and happiness. I was telling two people that they are in control of only themselves and to make the most of it and they were like you're so right. It's hard to accept and realize. It's WAY easier to blame others or feel down! :-p

I made a conscious choice months ago, to use my words to build up people. I know what it is like to have someone either intentionally or not to just shred you with careless words. I added words Like "brilliant", and "awesome", and "amazing"... and you know what I have found? That because I have expanded my world to include those words I "see" those attributes more. I see them in others and in myself and in the world around me..............I decided that I never wanted anyone's dreams to "suffer" at the carelessness of my words or lack of vision..........and have committed to handeling others' dreams as the masterpieces they are.. even if I can't yet see it.But it has been interresting to me, that I see them more clearly now that I have added "building words" to my vocabulary!

I agree Bridget, I too often forget the power I have. I have one life, one body So I remind myself Use it to make a difference, I have the power to take on any challenge in my life. I try to not feel sorry for myself, there are plenty people in this world suffering more than I.

I am with you Bridget. I think there is power in words, they can be used for good or bad.. to build up or to destroy....

very cool! Thanks for sharing that it is a good one for sure! I love anything that is inspiring. Lately when I'm stressed, "It is what it is" or "Don't compromise yourself, you're all that you've got, "Damn everything but the circus", yes a lil off topic but words can really have wonderful inspiration and motivation, not to mention calming effects.
