I dont know if this is the place to post. I was wondering if anyone knows of the book "Dare to Prepare".By Holly Deyo. I was just reading on newswithviews.com about this book. I looked on amazon.com and it is selling for $44.00. That is crazy! I am looking for a used copy and that was the cheapest.
We were flooded in our basement over the weekend with the storm. It made me think I should become a little more preparedness savvy. I am not fearful at all. I just see the signs of the times and thought besides looking up I should be prepared also, I have 4 grandchildren who live a mile away. I want to be a blessing to anyone I can.

When we were stuck in the house for a week after Mt St Helens blew up, I remember my mom always saying how glad she was that she had plenty of hot cocoa and popcorn. We played games on the living room floor and had cocoa and popcorn for snacks. Just like camping.
Store what you eat and eat what you store. Being sure to rotate. If you have thousands of pounds of wheat stored, but you don't use it in your daily diet, you will make your self sick if that's suddenly introduced in as wheat chili, gluten meat, etc. I store things like pizza sauce, jello, koolaid, hard candy, etc. I have let our storage dwindle over the last few years, but I know it's something I need to get back on top of. Don't forget shampoo, toilet paper, and deoderant. =)

Faith, Books are great, but I bet if you did a little searching on the internet with www.google.com or some search engine you would find a wealth of info for free. Also if you go to www.paperbackswap.com you might actually find that book you are looking for there and then you can just swap a book you have for that book, or other ones with the same kind of info.

Don't forgot when it comes to preparedness also think about medication, light sources (flashlights with extra batteries), heat (extra blankets in winter if you don't have a wood stove), cooking source like a camping stove, tp, and just about anything else you might use on a daily basis. What do the kids scream for if they run out?
On the other side of that having some games handy, coloring books for younger kids and other forms of entertainment since the tv will be probably be out. A radio that runs on batteries is good too.

The LDS Church is kinda into the food storage and emergency preparedness. I have found lots of good stuff on their website- www.lds.org......click on Home and Family, then Family Home Storage, then take your pick of articles. It's good stuff and no missionaries will call you, I promise. :o}

There are so many helpful books out there. We are really into preparedness. I have to admit though, I am sadly lacking in storing enough water and pet food. Guess the animals would eat what we do..yikes. My one big advice....rotate what you store! Store only what you normally eat or will eat happily and rotate it. Works for us.
