Just want to remind everyone that when you cahnge your clocks it is time to check those smoke detector and carbonmonoxide detector batteries. As it is getting close to winter it is also a good time to refresh flashlight batteries and refresh your emergency food and water supply.

thanks julie .. a great way to remember to update lots of important things around the home. interesting you should bring this up at this time ... i've just arrived in toledo .. and the first night i slept upstairs .. with my precious famly down the hall ... i started thinking about their 'ways to escape' should a fire break out downstairs in the middle of thenight .. and block off their exit via the steps to the first floor. i wandered (in my mind) to every window upstairs .. and at each one .. realized there was a two-story drop to the ground! And with a baby and five-year old .. that would not be an easy thing to accomplish safely. Next morning .. first thing .. i told 'the kids' .. is that we needed to go to a store (or the nearest fire station for recommendations) to get an EXCELLENT and SAFE "ladder" to climb down! It is on our agenda THIS WEEK!

Gurlz ... do this same little 'wandering in your own homes and in those of your loved ones' .. and tell all your friends to do the same. It's these 'little' things ath sometimes just get forgotten .. but that can potentially be a life-saver! AND .. of course .. part of this should be the checking of all alarms .. and locating fire extinguishers in areas that are easily accessible. I think these detectors, extinguishes and ladders would make PERFECT christmas gifts for each household that you give gifts to. (only ... give it to them NOW!)

I have a friend whose daughter had TRIPLETS a couple years ago .. they were only a few months old .. when .. in the middle of the night, theyt heard a very loud banging on their front door .. it was a neighbor who happened to look out his window .. saw that all the lights in their home were out .. but FLAMES were shooting all through their kitchen .. very visible outside. It was this act that awoke them and saved the lives of this young couple, their young triplet babies and their dog! Their home burnt to the ground before the fire department got there to put out the fire!

It is a dinner served and eaten in silence in honor of our ancestors....we are serving it in silence as we have a four year old that can't sit quiet that long! We will serve it in silence and then talk about our ancestors while we eat. There will also be a place set for our ancestors, with a bit of our dinner, plus other goodies and icons that help us to remember them, ie. one of my Grampa's tractors from his collection and a photo of him, one of my elephants from my Gramma's collection, one of the dishes I will be preparing will be one of Rob's Aunt Mert's recipe's and one will be his Grandma Margaret's. We will have a bit of kitty food and rat food as well because we have lost those pets this past year.

Hey how about I post this over in the Holiday section too? See you over there....

We have had them sitting on the counter for a week and curious enough, our detectors started beeping for a change of battery just the other day....just every so often so that you are aware and have a bit of time to go buy new batteries....changing them tomorrow before our Dumb Dinner.

What a great way to remember to check them twice each year! Thanks for the idea - I'm always looking for better ways to remember to get done all that needs to be done!

XOXO, Libbie
